Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Didn't know they reunited. The hipsters at Pitchfork must've jizzed themselves when they heard. :p

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Just downloaded the 'Mats show and hope to give it a listen later today.

Can't hardly wait... ;)

:D

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

How'd you download it? I followed the links from that article, and all I ended up with was some crap that installed on my computer and is still screwing stuff up.

Anyway, there's two more Riot Fest shows with the 'mats headlining, Chicago and Boulder, Co. and after that it's up in the air whether they'll go out and maybe put a real tour together. As much as I detest a lot of the "band reunites, goes on tour/oldies summer festival" thing, I'll pretty much definitely be there if they come anywhere near here.

You sure that was from those links? :p:D

I got it from here...

Still haven't gotten to it yet and will probably have to wait for Monday in the office. It's an audience recording and according to users of the site who've heard it, it's quite nice sounding.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Well it was working fine before I clicked on them.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

As I said below, I'm working my way through the Pat Metheny Group discography. Their LIVE album Travels from 1983 is one of my favorites. Here's a tune off the album, "Song for Bilbao." Enjoy!

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

For my tastes PJ gets way too little respect when you listen to their overall catalog. I know there's Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains et al - all of whom I really love and this is not a rating thing so much, but for longevity and purity it's really hard to beat:

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Some non-singles are their best songs, IMO. "Off He Goes," and "Do The Evolution" are two of my alltime faves of theirs.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

PJ is the only one of the "Seattle Four" that I am not a huge fan of; can't explain why. They have some decent songs, but I just don't love their entire catalog.

I actually have quite a bit more TAD and Mudhoney stuff than PJ. Good old stompy, beer-fueled punk and metal.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Some '70's power pop to make your day. A two-line verse and then straight to the hooky chorus. No messin' around.

Hard to believe this same guy wrote the dreadful All By Myself.

I love mashups if done well. There's a Beastie Boys/Rage Against The Machine mashup that is quite excellent (Intergalactic Geurilla Radio):

Daniel Lanois & Emmylou Harris - 8/27/11

Great sounding board recording. Can really hear the influence he's had on the Edge and vice versa.

Wow. Spoke (typed) too soon. While the first tune sounded slightly U2-ish, the rest sounds as if Daniel is being backed up by Crazy Horse. Great stuff from an amazingly talented musician.

I got away from Bowie for a several years (not sure why but have gone through the same with R.E.M. for instance) but lately I've been listening to Lodger, Station to Station, A Reality Tour and The Rise and Fall...

Glad we found each other again.

Nirvana, MTV Unplugged

Kurt, introducing Pat Smear, says, "This is our new guitar player, Pat. He's a certified honorary punk rocker...*applause and whoops*...but he likes Queen more" :D

Pat throwing his cigarette just before he comes in on Radio Friendly Unit Shifter...so casual and such a rock move:)
