Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Any good recommendations for a pair of over-ear headphones in the $100-200 range?

Right now I have some old Sony MDR-XB300s that sound...actually not bad, but they're getting long in the tooth and the earmuff shell is starting to flake.

Tried some Sennheisers at Worst Buy, but they're not for me - too flat. I like a good bass kick to my sound and nice bright highs without getting too shrill. Mostly listen to EDM (trance/dubstep/hardcore/DnB/chiptune,) metal, and rock.

I'm not a big headphone person, but I notice a lot of listeners with the Beats by Dr Dre these days. Looks like some of them meet the top end of your $200 range.

Currently listening to most of the Pat Metheny Group discography starting at the beginning with their debut album Pat Metheny Group (also known as their "white album") and will work my way to The Way Up.

I always thought Beats were optimized for bass-heavy hip hop/techno/etc. Not my kind of music, but I know Twitch is into that 'dubstep' stuff.

Honestly, I love the $20 pair of Sennheisers I bought years ago. For as many times as I've thought about spending more to upgrade, the itch has passed within a few days.

The story I've heard on Beats is they're horrifically overrated for the price. You're paying for name. You can get better for less. That said, if you get the deal of the century on a pair they're passable.

Tried on some Sennheiser HD-380s at Worst Buy, they seemed suffocating and flat for my taste (but the demo station was crap compared to the Beats/Sony stations.)

*looks in mirror* Oh Lord, please don't tell me I'm becoming one of THEM...

Echo Movement - 4 albums on shuffle

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Went with a pair of Sennheiser HD-558s. They were the only headphones I tried that I put on and immediately went "Whoa."

Two gripes: the 3.5mm connector is way too fat to fit in the jack of my Otterboxed cell phone, and you can definitely tell if you have a crap source *coughYoutubePandora* But other than that, WHOA. I'm hearing parts of songs I never knew existed. And freaking VELOUR muffs!

Today, I'm checking out...

The Cure - 8/1/87 Toronto.

Soundboard recording from the Kiss Me Tour. Have never heard a show from this tour. Cool.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

My kid showed me this tonight and it's worthy. Very surprising and great cover of this tune. Signed up to their mailing list to get the free download of it. :)

The original - which I've actually liked too, as much as I "like" any of his screamo stuff...

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Finally got the new Luke Bryan album. Should have had it a few weeks ago, but I've been busy. So far, so good.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Was trolling youtube for some Soul Asylum stuff, and came across this.

And their own stuff is as good as anybody's.

Picked this up yesterday - LOVING it!

Seriously, one of the freshest sounds I've heard in a LONG time. Infectious.

Thanks, Rufus. Now they better play here!!!!

Listening to Sorry Ma.... right now. Johnny's Gonna Die is the perfect juxtaposition of their early punk and Westerburg's "softer" side. One of my favorite 'Mats songs.
