I grew up liking a lot of the music my dad liked, so a lot of classic rock, with zeppelin being my all time faveI had an hour drive to see family and put Is This It on from The Strokes. Damn that's a great album.
Back when I was trying to listen to all of the top 500 RS albums I had started with the top and working back before someone correctly mentioned that I was going in the wrong direction.I listened to Pet Sounds in its entirety over the weekend. I had honestly never heard the title track and I now realize there are god knows how many "progressive rock" bands that owe a massive debt to that instrumental.
It was also very controversial at the time because it was the first song on the radio that specifically used “God” with its lyrics. 1960s America, how quaintly superstitious it was. Not like our sensibly taken actions of pray-the--measles-away ethos today.Oh and DGF is dead on about God Only Knows.
It’s just a beautiful song.
