USCHO Music: From Queen to The Beatles to Lady Gaga

Holy shit, Brian Jones was a bad person. BTW he was 23, he had 7 children by as many women, never supported any of them, and had physically abused most of the mothers.

TIL, the Nirvana song "Big Cheese" is specifically about Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman. Surprised I never made this connection before.

I now picture Jon, in the studio office between takes, circa 1988:

"What is the MESSAGE of this song? All of your songs have to MEAN something! Otherwise, why bother recording them at all? The audience has to FEEL your big dumb redneck logger energy! That's what we do here."

Great show even though we couldn't see the band from where we were despite just being about 15 people back from the front.

It ended in the most Iowa way ever, though. About 2 songs from the end someone in the crowd ODed, they crowdsourced narcan, and ended the show early as the cops and ambulance showed up.

The first Bad Bunny song on SNL last night was great. He was also in 2 skits and excellent. He is a classic, old school entertainer. Impressive.

Paul Westerberg 14 Songs

Does this album have a bad song? I don't think I've heard one. I guess if you really hate obvious, smirky, self-referential radio bait, maybe "World Class Fad" isn't for you.
Westerberg is what he is. I really like him and think he is a talented songwriter. I had never heard of the Mats until this place, and will always thank you guys for getting me into them. His smugness and narcissism doesn't bother me in the least. I like Jonathan Richman and Gordon Gano too. They are all the same guy.

You can be a great artist and also a tool. It is not uncommon.

No different than Maine, every where you go Narcan is available

Well damn…I hate to say it because the singer appears to be a db…but I really enjoyed the songs Arcade Fire played on SNL 2 weeks ago.

NEW YORK (AP) — Billy Joel has canceled all his upcoming concerts across North America and England after being diagnosed with fluid buildup in his brain that has affected his “hearing, vision and balance.”

Joel revealed on Instagram that he has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, “a brain disorder that can affect brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement and more,” the Cleveland Clinic says.

“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance,” according to a statement from Joel’s team. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”

2024 was a big year for me musically. My Cornell tribute picked up bigly - doing 200-350 paid a show (at $25-30 per ticket, no less) and really making a name for ourselves. And that meant, of course, that our singer moved to Nashville. So now we're a twice a year band when he comes back. I'm insanely happy for him, the dude is just incredibly talented. We're looking to do the entire Temple of the Dog record in December.

Meanwhile, he's coming back in August to do some shows, playing his solo music (rock/country/kindabuttrock) and asked us to be his backing band. Definitely out of my comfort zone but I'm looking forward to stretching a little.

In other news, my doom band is booking studio time for the fall. We have about an hour of music. Sorta a jammy stonery doom band, think a mix of Sleep, Grateful Dead and like Candlemas. Fun stuff if you're into 15 minute songs that don't go faster than 90 bpm. But I get to use a whole lot of different effects, so there's that.

In other, other news, I'm filling in this summer for a pretty good Alice In Chains tribute band. One I actually used to play for. I'm not really interested in joining full time, but they do have a bunch of great shows booked this summer and who am I to turn that down?

In gear news, I'm finally reshuffling my gear! Selling some stuff I don't use or don't like and I'm sorta kinda bass shopping. Unsure if I want something more like stuff I already have or if I want to get weird and buy a headless/fanned fret monstrosity.
