Re: USCHO Cooks: Maybe We Can Beat Bobby Flay
Done baking cookies. Total just under 2,000 (the most I've done), given out to 21 different places (two hockey teams, 3 charitable organizations, and 16 family/friends). 26 different kinds, although I tossed out 2 things (nougat and some Andes cookies I threw together with leftover stuff). Most of the new types I tried were meh - good but not great.
New rule - no more cookies coated in powdered sugar. Too messy when packaging.
Pistachio wreaths were very pretty and festive, but I could probably offer a million dollars to anyone that receives one intact, and not have to pay out. Not sure they were a good idea to send.
The peppermint palmiers turned out, although I didn't think they were exceptionally tasty.
The nougat hardened too quickly (maybe my butter was too cold) and was inedible - solidified to the mixer bowl.
Kinds I made at Zingerman's - cocoa caramel snowballs, cardamom snowflake puffs (made with puff pastry - didn't keep well and broke easily, had to toss them), Viennese rum punch (amazing chocolate-raspberry rum filling), and pistachio cherry slices (more like quick bread, but really tasty).
Added <a href="http://www.womansday.com/food-recipes/food-drinks/recipes/a9652/chocolate-cherry-pistachio-pinwheels-120978/">Chocolate Cherry Pistachio pinwheels</a> after the Zimsterne disaster.
Didn't do the eggnog mini cakes (no. more. baking), and didn't make the nuts and Nutella gifts yet. Also put together some speculaas dough for making later, since they were received very well at Thanksgiving. And because I am cookie-d out.
