Re: US Junior Team Part II

Crazy, crazy TV ratings for the game in Canada:

From TSN

"It was an epic game with an epic audience to match. Tuesday night's thrilling IIHF World Junior Championship gold medal game made television history for TSN.

Preliminary overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that TSN's average audience for the game was an outstanding 5.3 million viewers - an all-time record for the network and the largest audience recorded on Canadian television since 2005*. It is the sixth largest audience for any broadcast on Canadian television in records that date back to 1994.

An astounding 12.3 million viewers - or more than one in three Canadians - tuned in to some of or the entire broadcast."

That is incredible, folks.

That's about 6 times the audience for the NCAA title game on ESPN.

That probably doesn't differentiate the Americans that get TSN through their cable/satellite provider.

I don't think TSN is available legally in the US (maybe on the old, big dishes) but not on DTV or dish network.

The World Junior games were televised here by the NHL network, using American announcers and TSN camerawork. Those ratings are seperate.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Whaaaat, you mean all of a sudden this tournament matters to our fine friends in Minnesoooota????;)

Funny how winning will do that isn't it?

Like I stated before, this is the premier amature hockey tournament in the whole world......so will the usual suspects still like to argue with me about that?

Little late getting back to this thread but what an awesome game....it had everything!

Now lets see if we can do it at the Olympics as well (ok ok getting a little ahead of myself here...lets just enjoy the moment)

As for attendance in Buffalo...a non issue really. Canadians will be chomping at the bit for revenge and will be coming down in hordes! U.S. winning was the best thing that could have happened for the IIHF and the city of Buffalo as it creates even more interest now on both sides of the border.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Congratulations to TEAM USA.

I watched as many games as I could during the holidyas and enjoyed the high caliber of hockey immensely.

Last night was simply a joy to watch.

If given the choice of going see the World Juniors or the GLI I would go see the World Juniors....

One of my friends in the Albany NY area has it with Time Warner Cable.

So would I..... at least until RPI's next invite. :p

Re: US Junior Team Part II

#1) The 4 on 4 in OT for however long things go is awesome. It makes something already gut-wrenching doubly so.

That is not the rule. They would have had a shootout had it not been decided in the OT.

How many games would you attend? The big question isn't how many people will go see USA vs Latvia but how many people will go see Czech Republic vs Austria.

I would totally go to that!!! It would be awesome and fun.

But with the Schwan's Cup and the Gophers Invite Cupcakes So We Don't Get Embarrassed At Our Own Tournament (GICSWDGEAOOT), there isn't going to be a way to host it.

Nobody ever said it didn't matter to some of us. Just that it doesn't matter as much to us as the State HS tourney. I like watching the WJC (I even attended a few games when it was in Grand Forks when I was living there), but I look forward to the MSHSL Boy's State Hockey tournament more. To each their own.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Holy $&%^!! - 30-plus pages in less than 48 hours.....

What a victory. And to do it after looking like a repeat from New Years Eve. Going from 5th place to Gold is quite an accomplishment. I was so pumped up last night when we scored. I hadn't jumped around like that since...well, since the NCAA title game. Which begs the question - how does David Warsofsky top the past 9 months? He played in the best NCAA title game of all time and one of the top 5 games in USA Hockey history.

Unfortunately, the only downer is that I thought Warsofsky actually struggled quite a bit. Lots of turnovers. Hopefully, the level of competition was the driver and he will elevate his NCAA game Friday at Fenway :D

Re: US Junior Team Part II

I have been looking at the posts since the first game of the tournament. I joined before the first USA/Canada game and I just got approved now :(

That gold medal game was awesome and I am looking forward to having UW's three back!

p.s. Canada sucks!!!
:D

It can't be 'amature' if the kids in the major juniors are compensated, otherwise they could play major juniors, THEN attend and play at an American college. I think that's what the word amateur means (Dictionary.com: am⋅a⋅teur  /ˈæməˌtʃʊər, -tʃər, -tər, ˌæməˈtɜr/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [am-uh-choor, -cher, -ter, am-uh-tur] an athlete who has never competed for payment or for a monetary prize.)

It's also not amateur because there were professional hockey players in the tournament. Not just MJ kids.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Who wants a good laugh?

Rhetorical question, everyone wants a good laugh.

Some are putting a silver lining on Canada's second place finish. The U-S edged the red and white lastnight in a thrilling over-time finish to the World Junior Hockey Championship gold medal game. The expectations were high for the Canadians to come out on top. But Sportswriter Bruce Dowbiggin says not everyone had the Canadians picked to win. Some hockey analysts had two other teams in mind.

"They felt the Russians, and the Americans were probably the favourites, and of course the Russians imploded early on. The Americans played up to their form. So I think the Canadians over achieved in this tournament."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
