US Junior Team cuts

Re: US Junior Team cuts

Canadians do realize that no one in the rest of the world, outside of college hockey boards, cares about this tournament? For all their Boxing Day-January 5th chest thumping and shouting, the rest of the world isn't paying attention and really doesn't give a crap how many Junior titles they win?

..like you would know what the rest of the world cares about?? ... particularly when it comes to hockey.

The selection of the national junior team of Sweden was announced live on national TV in that country. Its important for important hockey nations. Only hockey minnows like the US, Switzerland, and Austria etc. have no idea that the best hockey played is during the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Olympics, and the World Juniors.

Will you be sober enough to watch the Canuck game tomorrow?

Re: US Junior Team cuts

For anyone who is interested, the Czechs lost to Finland. Given what happened to us in the exhibition, I guess our key players were out.

.. and being a fan of the sport of hockey, I will also watch the US game ... (that way I can boo them from my living room) .... and to check out the competition, which will come from the US, Sweden and Russia.

So you don't have a job, huh.

I have to side with the Canadian guy here. The WJC is huge in a lot of places.

Although I don't see how he says the US is a hockey minnow in one post, and then how we're one of Canada's competition in the next.

Canadians suck at smack talk and are easily confused. They try hard though.

Frankly, it's things like the World Juniors that make me giddy to be American. For all the crap Americans get from everyone for being boorish, xenophobic tools because we're proud of what our country has accomplished, it's good to see that the Canadians, constantly pointed out as who we should aspire to act like, are just as big of a group of *******s when it comes to something they think they own and should be proud of.

The fact that the biggest thing the Canadians will ever be able to point to is a junior hockey tournament, well, that's schadenfreude.

I think every group of people on Earth is xenophobic to an extent.

Oh I care and thoroughly enjoy this tournament. I also realize I'm in the distinct minority of Americans and American hockey fans in general.

The fact is this tourney had mediocre to awful attendance in Europe and was one of the main drivers in moving it to North America on what looks like a semi-permanent basis(and really Canada even with Buffalo and Grand Forks).

And the Canadian Junior Hockey team (and its fans) are moving themselves squarely into position no.2 behind Mexican Soccer in my pantheon of hate.

If we're going with wild guesses, I'm going to assume you're a 15 year old posting from your mother's basement in Sudbury. Congratulations on somehow knowing my life experience, education, and knowledge of hockey's global reach from one post. Ah wait, you're a Canuck, obviously from berth you were blessed with an in depth knowledge of the game I'm incapable of acquiring.

Face it, your overly proud of a tourney that your country alone lives and dies with. Good luck flopping on the big stage yet again in February.

When America Jr. fans start lobbing bags of urine at Parise, Kane and Co. in Vancouver, I'm drawing the line.

Re: US Junior Team cuts

I'm sick of the Canadian obsession with the USA though - give it a break. I'm going to laugh a lot if JMFJ makes Team USA because you know those clowns are going to boo him for ringing up Steve Downie still after the last few years.

Especially since Downie is on the up and up this season with TB. He now has, what, 9 goals? That's almost as many goals as he has cheap shots in his NHL career! Sorry, I don't condone JMFJ's hit on Downie, but the Canadians calling for his head is simply laughable based on the fact that JMFJ is yet to miss a single game due to suspension for illegal hits whereas Downie has almost a third of a season (maybe even closer to a half season) in suspensions thus far in the NHL alone.

There are individuals on the teams where the scores might be lopsided who nonetheless deserve to showcase their talents to the international community.
So in other words, there are cases when the letters on the back of the jersey are more important than the front?

Sorry RWtD, I disagree. Let the individuals showcase their talent by showing how they can produce in the clutch and be great teammates in a successful effort.

No doubt.
Some Canadians are like that. It's ok when they're the ones doing the beating. Not ok when it is the hateful, awful, mean spirited, capitolistic minded, greedy ******** that are the Americans.

It's why I've tempered my claim on UMN arrogance down quite a bit. UMN fans look like saints compared to Canadian Major Junior fans.

That looks like it could blind you.
45% alcohol? Seriously, Dirty, why drink the stuff? You could use it to take rust off of bumpers, sterilize surgical equipment...

The future of Latvian hockey isn't too bright apparently
Interestingly enough, Latvia has a large population of expatriated Canadians... and, stereotypically enough, they're all restaurant owners/operators.

That's kindof a ballsy claim. Remember, the relocation of teams has yet to take a team from the US to Canada (I don't care HOW close Phoenix was to doing so). It's been the other way around.

Hey now! Let's not belittle what little things Canada has over us. Other than Prescription Medicine, Cuban Cigars, alcohol at 18, admission to gentlmen's clubs at 18, and Hockey, they've got nothing on us!

Give them hockey superiority. They're like the Jan Brady of the Western Hemisphere. :D

Eh, its supposedly growing in popularity in Sweden but this is the Hockey page of the Sports section of Finland's largest newspaper:

http://www.hs.fi/urheilu/jaakiekko/

My finnish is rusty:p , but I'm pretty sure there is no preview or mention of the tournament even if the score line from tonight hasn't been updated and this is one of the "Big 7" countries.

No better year than this year to see the Canuck clowns get stuffed on home ice. As "semi-permanent" hosts of the event, they will no doubt win a majority of these things, but when they do lose, it will be oh so sweet.
