US Junior Team cuts

Re: US Junior Team cuts

It's a lame excuse. First place will probably be the team that wins all of their games. More than likely, second will beat everyone but the first place team, and so on and so on.

But now imagine for a second that they assume that, let up, and the following happens:

The US loses to Slovakia, but then beats Canada. All 3 teams are 3-1, and Canada misses out on the medal round by 1 or 2 goals in goal differential because Slovakia and the US ran up the scores in their easy games while Canada cut themselves off at 6 or 7 goals. Far-fetched? Yes, but just imagine how ape-sh*t Canada would go if that ever happened. I have no problem with running the score up in tournaments like this.

Re: US Junior Team cuts

They need to cut off the goal differential at 8 or 10 for a game. So even if you win 37-0, you are only credited with +8/10.

But you know the Canucks will be booing the US if they run it up against Latvia.

I like this.

Or a mercy rule where if you are up by 8, the game is automatically called.

Then the people who paid for tickets probably riot. Of course they'd be jerks for paying crazy prices to go watch Canada go flog on someone terrible and wanted to see more piling on. Perhaps them getting scammed out of money would be a nice lesson to teach.

I can't wait to hear how many fights break out in Buffalo in 2011 when the Canadians show up to boo and there's actually Americans at the game to give them sh-t about it.

If it's anything like Grand Forks, they won't have the balls to boo much. If they do though, they'll get their arses kicked since they'll all be drunk.

Like they need an excuse :-p.

Actually today it was really mild and even audible cheering at times. It was a nice change though I don't think it will last for New Year's Eve.

The medal round includes 3 teams from each group, so this can not happen. It is impossible to go 3-1 and not make the medal round, unless all 3 wins are in overtime or shootout.

There'll be plenty of Canadians in Buffalo - they might even buy up more tickets than American fans. The potential is there for things to get ugly. Hopefully they'll be too drunk to feel the first few punches in the face.

I'm sick of the Canadian obsession with the USA though - give it a break. I'm going to laugh a lot if JMFJ makes Team USA because you know those clowns are going to boo him for ringing up Steve Downie still after the last few years.

Re: US Junior Team cuts

A really good game between the Czechs/Finland.
Finland trailed 3-1 entering the 3rd, and then took the lead 4-3 with only a couple minutes left. Finland wins.

An absolutely sick Finland goal tied the game at 3. Highlight reel toe drag on that one. :)

Re: US Junior Team cuts

Czech's choke away a 3-0 lead. Finland wins 4-3. The Czechs are going to the relegation round unless they can find a way to beat the Russians.

And Latvia is bad. Slovakia is up 3-0 and ahead of the Canadians pace of goal scoring.

Canadians do realize that no one in the rest of the world, outside of college hockey boards, cares about this tournament? For all their Boxing Day-January 5th chest thumping and shouting, the rest of the world isn't paying attention and really doesn't give a crap how many Junior titles they win?

Black Balsams is good. I'd also recommend the Alderis beer from Latvia.

Hopefully Slovakia will show more class than the Canadians did.

Especially considering D'Amigo will still be eligible next year, this sounds like a job for the Collar City Madmen*.
