Yeah, it's a bad scene there. Armenia has relied on Russia for a century for protection against the Turks, and Armenia just recently had their asses kicked in yet another shooting war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Turkey couldn't possibly care less about the conflict but they hate Armenia (honestly, go look up official Turkish statements on the Armenian Genocide. It's frightening). The alliances in that part of the world seem almost entirely on who you hate less, and not at all about who a country might actually align with.

Uh, we've been the strongest (by far) since WWII, and that certainly has not prevented us from getting into a war. By your point, we would not have gotten involved in Korea or Vietnam. Let alone the trillions we spent in the middle East.

Greed gets us into war. Greed is 100% why we made up a war out of thin air in Iraq, and it also the actual reason Vladdy is doing what he is doing.

If, instead, people and corporations allowed the local people to prosper just a little while we take their natural resources, that would prevent pretty much every conflict we've been in for the last 50 years. And some before that, too.
 
The idea that we should shoot down or otherwise escalate every single provocative act is ridiculous. This kind of thing happens all the time.
 
But we can't be seen as weak. Or impotent. Or some such shit.

Cause that's just embarassing to Drew's manly, testosterone-fueled perception of how foreign relations should work.

Why don't they all just flop it out on the desk, and biggest one wins. Work for you, Drew?

Or rather than "take their", how about stay in our own country and just go with what we have available.

I can't believe China got mildly peeved because we were flying planes right off of their border, thousands of miles from our border. The nerve of them. We should incinerate maybe like 10k of them for this disrespect. Party of life!

I assume anyone born in the caucuses worth anything intellectually is either an emigre or a suicide.

I know I'm a few years late on this, but am I the only one who thought it was weird that the country, not the region in Greece, had to change their name? I think that a full-on country should get dibs on the name first. Macedonia doesn't even get to be the Macedoniest Macedonia, that's got to bad for their self confidence.

Eh, not everyone is capable or willing. I follow this woman in Kyiv. She's young, maybe 30. Capable. Active. Smart. Talented. Educated. I started following her because her old band was awesome (long forgotten, but I followed all of the members). The rest fled as soon as Russia invaded, but she stayed. Why? Because her parents won't leave. The other guys that did leave didn't have elderly family left.

I'm 100% confident in saying that there are many like her that won't leave a terrible situation. Whether the reason is to care for family. Or a desire to make their home better. Or fight fascism. Or because the spring rains smell nice. Honestly, their reasons are their own. But stay they do.


I say that I'd leave too. But would I?

My gf and I have been discussing this lately. (In say 2024) Her parents can leave but mine cant so it is problematic to say the least.
 
If it becomes a threat, I'd leave. National abortion ban is my hard line. I don't know what my wife's is, but I suspect it's similar.

I'm not interested in watching my wife bleed out while a terminal parasite is killing her and the doctors can't do anything or they go to jail.
