Our allies should announce they are simply freezing all conditions until we restore functional government. Why even acknowledge Dump et al.? Just treat this as a temporary national aneurysm and appoint a guardian for us until we recover.

The fu**ing piece of sh** Lindsey Graham single handedly blocked the resolution to recognize the Armenian Genocide because "I just met with President Erdoğan and President Trump about the problems we face in Syria by the military incursion by Turkey. I do hope that Turkey and Armenia can come together and deal with this problem."

There may be a better thread for this, but I"m watching S1 E9 of the Greatest Events of WWII on Netflix. One of the historians comments on Hitler's rise to power as follows:

Really, if you had to identify a theme for Hitler's election campaigns, it would have been "Let's make Germany great again. Let's overturn the Versailles Treaty. Let's give people jobs. Let's get rid of these foreign elements that are poisoning our society."

Russia, Iran, Israel, and Syria. Throw in Turkey and the Saudis. I'm not saying let them just slug it out once and for all and give the charred remains to the winner, I'm saying... wait. Maybe I am saying that.

Can we please get off oil yet? I really can't wait for when that part of the world has the strategic importance of Mongolia.

We dont use their oil anyways. We are pretty self sufficient oil-wise.

Nah, that doesn't really make any sense. It's a fungible. If you put a kink in the line somewhere it affects everybody. Oil Self Sufficiency is a bullsh-t marketing ploy used by energy companies to drape their pollution in patriotism.

As long as we're expending our military budget and our children's lives to run the world for the benefit of the 1%, we're going to go poking our noses into any area that has strategically important resources. It's how the rich build their wealth on the corpses of the poor and the labor of the middle class.

What are you even talking about. Who Knew NPR Was An Energy Company

The majority of the oil we get comes from North America (60%) and if you include all of Latin America it is almost 75%. Only 13% comes from the Persian Gulf.

(the article is from 2012 so it is possible the numbers moved but not that much)

I was wrong to say "self sufficient" but we dont need the Persian Gulf oil in any way. North America has plenty and unless we go to war with Canada we will be fine.

We could leave the Middle East and not be hurt too badly.

No, the amount of oil we pump out of American sources means nothing because the US doesn't control it, energy companies do.

If we nationalize our oil reserves then we're energy independent. Until then, we are buying from private companies whose source is global. So if you stop up the drain in the Strait of Hormuz our oil prices shoot up. It doesn't matter if it comes from Saudi or South Texas.

Right but what does that have to do with The Middle East? Those companies arent in Saudi Arabia.

The whole point is we can leave the Middle East tomorrow and it wouldnt hurt the US in any way. Those companies dont need the Middle East either.
