I know it makes me an *******, but I have to giggle at the idea that Millenial Russians will get a taste of what things were like towards the end of the Cold War in real life as a result of many of these sanctions...

I, for one, cannot wait to collect enough Pepsi Points to purchase a MiG 29...

Yeah, I wouldn't believe a thing coming out of either the Ukrainian or Russian governments, or propaganda machines right now. The amount of fake/doctored pictures of destroyed Russian armament is hilarious, actually.
Agreed, but the amount of third party information floating on TikTok, Twitter, etc. that is swayed in Ukraine's direction seems to be good sources of info.

Unfortunately the longer this drags out the more likely the Ukrainians are gonna get thoroughly wrecked. From all indications Russia still has a signification portion of committed troops/resources yet to even enter Ukraine.

This is the same fear I have. What's going for Ukraine is that they're fighting on their home field. They know the streets, they know the area. I've seen a few former military posts on Twitter say that a greater than 6:1 ratio of invaders to defenders is needed to overtake defenders (pointing to their urban conflict experience in Afghanistan and Iraq). Sadly, it feels like Putin doesn't care about sending those kids to a meat grinder to overwhelm those odds.

The other thing Ukrainians have going for them is that the Russians are "shooting people who look like themselves," unlike the atrocities commited by US forces in the middle east. That, and the Russians are still using soviet era equipment 30 years after the fall of the USSR. Psychologically and physically, Ukrainians have the better hand, but the attrition rate is what will be the deciding factor.

Kasparov says Putin doesn't care about anything other than staying in power tomorrow. And next week. And next month.

Also, to go along with what you said, Russian troops have been eating K-rats that expired in 2015.

You gotta hand it to the Ukrainians they are having a blast making the Russians look stupid!

It looks exactly like our statements during the bombing of Baghdad.

I really hope all the stories of the resistance and the civilians in Ukraine are also coming home to Americans as what we did to Iraqis. "When we they ever learn," indeed.

I was too young to understand any of it in the first go around in '91. Have the trading cards to prove I was naive.

The second go around made me uneasy, but between the loack of political knowledge still and the "war on terror" propaganda, those feelings were sort of tempered.

This.... really drives the point home.

And Kepler may now search out how to stream Russia1 on YouTube because one of the hosts is Olga Skabeeva. Then again, maybe not, because she's not a redhead.

Andrew Largeman: Knock. Knock and barter for Desert Storm trading cards.
Mark: Don't tease me about my hobbies. I don't tease you about being an asshole.

Lol. Ambramov is selling Chelsea. Can the government seize his shares? Curious what UK law is....

All proceeds are apparently going to benefit war victims.

Four Russian fighters entered Swedish airspace today. We’re not doing enough to appease Putin.

My left nut they are. I don't believe a dam word coming out of his complicit mouth.
