We’re lucky if we can get half our planes in the sky at any one time.

It is literally impossible to have all planes in the sky at once. No modern military could do it. There are far too many logistical reasons to not do that very thing.

Trust me, I know. I've got 2 houses from it and growing. Nom nom.

Looks like pootie-poot might not be around too much longer.

Russian President Vladimir Putin fell down the stairs and soiled himself this week amid mounting speculation that his health is declining, an anti-Kremlin Telegram channel with apparent links to his security team reported.

Putin, 70, suffered the unfortunate fall at his Moscow official residence on Wednesday evening, according to the Telegram channel “General SVR,” which purports to be run by a former Russian spy.

The ailing Russian leader allegedly fell down five steps before landing on his coccyx, or tailbone.

Although his security guards immediately rushed to his aid, the impact of the fall caused Putin to “involuntarily defecate” due to “cancer affecting his stomach and bowels,” according to the channel.

I have no idea if this is accurate but the back of the envelope I have always heard is they plan for 1/3 active, 1/3 reserve, 1/3 in the shop. That's not pessimism, it is considered "fully provisioned."

Have him stand near a window...

I've always said there's a reason that All Quiet on the Western Front is and should remain required reading in high schools. It was very prescient when I was 16, watching the Iraq War unfold into a stalemate after Bush the Dumber declared "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED".

I am listening to Fussell's book about WW1 right now. Holy fuck, it is brutal. If you have even the slightest illusions about:
  • soldiers
  • the west
  • honor
  • capitalism
  • socialism
  • communism
  • intellectuals
  • The Volk
  • the working class
  • science
  • technology
  • rationalism
  • logic
  • engineers
  • romanticism
  • the humanities
  • officers
  • grunts
  • altruism
  • civilization
  • mankind
  • progress
  • men
  • women
  • the old
  • the young
just don't go near it. I think of myself as almost entirely composed of rock hard cynicism, and it still nearly put me in a coma. It is a fucking masterpiece but it is NOT for ... well, pretty much anyone. This book kills illusions.

Vlad just signed a law banning rallies in government buildings, universities, schools, hospitals, ports, train stations, churches, and airports. He is trying to suppress riots and protests among mobilized men and their families.

Meanwhile, Ivan and Svetlana got a nasty little surprise a couple days ago.
