She's put in the work from the beginning. All you had to do was watch her grill some of those Wall St. twats to see that.

A few more like her and Katie Porter, and we might get a government that actually starts working for the people.

I used to be a SLFC centrist but I grew out of it when it became almost impossible to square the two in my head.

same, although I still think that running huge deficits in perpetuity will come back to bite us in the ass someday. We should run deficits during downturns and have a surplus during boom years (like during the clinton administration). Unfortunately the right decided the solution to budget deficits was tax cuts, and a budget surplus meant taxes are too high and also need tax cuts to "fix" so we're always in a state of "overspending" so the righties always have an excuse to gut programs that actually help people.

Russia took time off from cluster bombing Metro stations where civilians are sheltering to cluster bomb a theater where civilians are sheltering.

Man, the Gulf War looks terrible when the victims are white.

One thing that you should note, then- republican presidents from Reagan on have ran massive deficits and never bothered to fix them. Clinton did reduce the deficits, to the point of an actual surplus projection, and Obama also reduced his inherited deficits.

r's only cut taxes and increased defense spending.

If you REALLY care about deficits, you would very much not be voting "conservative" since they haven't been for 50 years.

Back to the war....

My people to the rescue.

Slovakia has preliminarily agreed to provide Ukraine with a key Soviet-era air defense system to help defend against Russian airstrikes, according to three sources familiar with the matter, but the US and NATO are still grappling with how to backfill that country's own defensive capabilities, and the transfer is not yet assured.

According to two of the sources, Slovakia, one of three NATO allies that have the S-300 missile defense system, wants assurances that the systems will be replaced immediately.
Any country providing S-300s is likely to receive the US-made Patriot air defense missile system to backfill the capability it would be giving up, according to two other sources familiar with the negotiations. Germany and the Netherlands have already publicly announced that they are sending Patriots to Slovakia. But integrating a new, complex air defense system into a country's existing military architecture, as well as training its forces to use it, can take time, one source familiar with the matter cautioned.

Don’t forget the other two prongs in the Republican attack:

The local level “crime and homelessness is running rampant!” and whatever state level culture war BS that works.
  • "Welfare queens."
  • "Persecution of Christians (whites, men, conservatives, straights...)"
  • "Terrorist immigrant caravans."
  • "Job-killing red tape."
  • "9-11 Mosque."
  • "Nation of Indians led by Swedes."
I'll occasionally talk to a Righty just to see what the Echo Chamber Bingo Card is this week. Remember "me must make flag burning a felony!"?

In modern warfare, what use really are tanks anymore? Seems they're just an easy target to get blown to shit.

Last thing in the army I'd want to be in is a tank crew. What's their average survival time in a battle, something like 4 minutes?

At the end of the day you still boots on the ground, tanks and APCs do a really good job of that.

If you had control of the skys, that would take a huge risk away. And in the open desert- they were pretty darned useful.

I'm seeing that some of the kamikaze drones may be sold to Ukraine. There are different flavors of them- but they mostly get shot out of a tube that is set up much like a mortar. Pretty amazing modern devices. Had russia managed to get control of the air, it would be very different. But drones are directing rockets to tanks, and other drones could do damage on their own. Given they are like remote control airplanes, I should not be surprised that they exist.

Every major army on earth is probably dumping everything they can into drones. Tanks are going the way of the battleship. Give everyone on earth a javelin and a stinger.

Which, if you'll allow a little imagination, makes me wonder about the future of land warfare in general. Any chance we see a similar shift in mechanized infantry that we did with naval? (No more big boats with massive guns, replaced with aircraft carriers - is there a possible analog here.) Boots on the ground replaced with specialized teams that deploy ground based drones? What would that look like? Mobile "mines"? I don't think we're within even 50 years of a Boston Dynamics dog racing into a building and merc'ing anyone.

anyways. Tanks are dead. The Russians chose poorly.

No matter any of the technological advances in warfare there has always been one constant: To hold territory you need boots on the ground. Tanks will evolve but they're not going anywhere.

You might be right. Maybe I should be more specific. Main battle tanks are dead.

So, remember that guy conservatives were posting videos of kvetching about Ukrainians not treating him well as a solider of fortune?

Heh.
