I say this very, very grudgingly, only with the benefit of hindsight, it does appear that someone in the Administration is playing a long game in the Middle East, which is refreshing in itself, and even more there are preliminary signs it is starting to work. Whomever is behind it, it is clearly a multi-step sequential plan.

Saudi Arabia's brands of monarchical theocracy and Islam are more extreme than Iran's, and their human rights record is worse. The Saudis should not be our allies, but unfortunately that ship has sailed, so we're stuck with Iran (OOGA BOOGA!) as Public Enemy #2.
