University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

I thind we are beginning to see a define pattern here where standout hockey players visit the top DI ice hockey schools in the nation and choose UND over everyone else. Recruits seem to be most impressed with the 1) the coaches, 2) the team, 3) Sioux players playing in the NHL, and 3) the atmosphere at the Ralph.

Interesting that he is being coached by a former Wisconsin defensmen and he picked UND over Wisconsin. Also I had a suspicion that scheduling Notre Dame over the holiday was good for recruiting, especially since Pelnik was also recruited by Notre Dame. Good thing UND won 6-3 over Notre Dame on Friday night. Tough loss for Notre Dame in more ways than one.

I thought only St. Clown fans couldn't count past 3........

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

The injury bug has hit the Sioux early this season:

UND will continue to be without top-line forwards Jason Gregoire and Brett Hextall. Both continue to be sidelined with upper-body injuries.

Sioux coach Dave Hakstol also said it’s possible that there might be more absences for the Sioux, however, nobody else has been ruled out at this point.

Hakstol indicated both today and Saturday night that there are a lot of guys playing with injuries right now. We know that both Chay Genoway and Brock Nelson were held out from the end of the game Saturday night for precautionary reasons.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Was Nelson CFB in practice or during Saturday's game?

It was at the end of the game on Saturday, but I honestly didn't think it was a CFB. Saying that, there have been a few majors called this season that I didn't think were majors, so it wouldn't have surprised me if they had called CFB on the play.

It was a pretty good shot, with Nelson in a dangerous position near the boards. He ended up going head first into the boards. The camera panned away to follow the play, but when the officials blew the whistle for no apparent reason, it really worried me that he was seriously injured. As it was, he was just groggy and unsteady and was able to make his way to the bench. I'd like to see the replay of it again. I remember that Farce P. or someone also commented on the hit in the score thread when it happened.

Yeah, it was definitely a tough hit, and Nelson took a hard fall. I could have seen a boarding penalty on the play, but I didn't think it was CFB when I watched it. Perhaps a replay would change my mind on it. At the end of the day though, nothing was called, and hopefully Nelson can recover ASAP. He is really good with his stick, and I'd like to see him on the PK at some point to see what he can do there.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Doesn't everyone when they play the Gophers?

Dirty, where have you been? First the "nice week" and now you haven't touched your Diatribe since DU?! What the hell is going on? Did you get a job or something?:p

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Well, a win is a win. We played a bit lethargic throughout much of the game, but Frattin got the boys going finally in the third. With Duluth losing, we are now in our rightful spot at the top of the WCHA :p:D:D Hopefully tomorrow they come out with a bit more spark and take control of the game from the beginning.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Nice job guys. Way to battle back on the road!! Now start sweeping the landcows out of their own building!!

Our team scoring one more goal than the other team=win. We'll take it. Nice win when you score 3 in the third. :)

No posts in nearly 2 days? The world must have come to an end! :D

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

The last two weekends were games we were "supposed" to win. Good job by the team getting those 8 points and putting themselves in good shape in the WCHA at this point in the season.

It's been a long time since a UND team has been in this good of a position ending the first half. Nice job breaking the slow start trend.
Great to see the sweep of the Mavs, especially with all the injuries to starting players. Really showed the depth of the team to have two top line players out for two weekends in a row and still manage 8 points.

Time to rest up a bit now for the big UMD game.
The Sioux women beat UMD in the last game of the DECC...the Sioux men could spoil the party of their new arena as well. :D

We spoiled the opening of Bemidji's new arena. Only be fair if we do the same in Duluth. :)

Nice to get a sweep when it definitely could've gone the other way this weekend.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Agreed with what has been said so far, very pleased with the sweep and the play over the last two weekends. We're two points ahead of Duluth at the halfway point, and we have a favorable schedule down the backstretch.

For those that are curious, here is the last half of the season after the 1st of the year...

Home - Robert Morris
Home - Minnesota
Home - Nebraska-Omaha
Away - Colorado College
Off Week
Home - Alaska-Anchorage
Away - St. Cloud State
Home - Bemidji State
Away - Michigan Tech

That's 5 home series, and only 3 away series. Also, none of those away series are back to back. Out of those 16 games, winning 12-14 is entirely possible, if not expected. Hakstol has never had a 30 win team. The Sioux could very well win 35 this year. FWIW, since the 1963 Championship season, every Sioux title winning team has won at least 31 games (31 in '80, 35 in '82, 40 in '87, 31 in '97 and 31 in '00).

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

From those 16 games, I would be pleased with 11-12 wins...13 or 14 would be great.
UMN, UNO, CC, etc are tough teams, and BSU/SCSU/UAA are all capable of easily pulling off an upset.
Also, RMU is having a good season thus far, so it will be interesting to see how that series goes.

Brad Schlossman was saying on the game chat today that he was anticipating both Gregoire and Hextall being back for the UMD game.
Hopefully that happens.

Agreed - those were games that we were supposed to win, but playing without Gregoire and Hextall made them that much better.

I like your optomism, but I don't see 35 wins. They're at 13 now, and would just about need to run the table to get to 35. Of course, I had them at 12 wins at the end of the first half so what do I know? :)

It would be great to get Gregoire and Hextall back, but if they're not 100%, keeping them off the ice until the second half wouldn't hurt.
