University of North Dakota... the March past March

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

The Sioux are sitting at #1 in the latest USCHO poll. Very split opinions concerning who is #1 between UND, BC, and Yale after last weekend's results. The Sioux are also at #1 in KRACH and #2 in PWR a the moment. The polls really don't mean anything, but hopefully the guys will live up to those lofty rankings/expectations down the stretch.

It's a curse! #1 in the PWR is what i'd rather have.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

I hate being Number 1 in the polls. I just want to be Number 1 in the Pairwise.

Now Bemidji and/or Tech can use the old " Let's go out and beat the Number 1 team in the country" speech.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

if the sioux can hold on to a one seed, I dont think it will matter if bc has to go out west, you would think for attendance purposes that the sioux would be given the midwest regional (greenbay), although in a idealized world, und would be the 1 seed or if they are a 2 or 3, have bc be a 4, then you only would play them in a title game....lot of hockey b/t here and there though.... should be interesting to see who the finishes 3 and 4th in the wcha, as i believe 4th faces the possibility of hosting a hot scsu team, which knows its only ticket to the ncaa's is a final 5 title, i predict 3 points for scsu over wisconsin, slowly moving them up the standings.......

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

One down, now it justs needs to get through the senate and the governor...
:D:D:D:D

sigh, i really appreciated the comments by the rep from grand forks, I wish ppl would understand its too late in the game, the ncaa is a private institution and can impose any rules on its members that it wishes: if und wants to pursue #8 and beyond, or keep a nickname, the current rink above all else ensure that und men's hockey stays competitive, thats all that matters to me ........

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Screw the rep that said that, isn't that Elliot Glasshiem? I just saw it on TV as well.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Interesting comments from Glasshiem, and I respect his opinion, he makes some good points. However as far as I'm aware Florida State hasn't had any problems with scheduling despite being far more insensitive towards their namesake than UND. The hypocrisy of the entire issue is overwhelming.

Anyway...

Glad to see the Sioux on top for the stretch run. Hopefully they can keep the pressure in check through these last four games. I'm ready to go with my first round tickets.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

With the season winding down, I was curious to see what your fan base has thought of Brock Nelson's and Derek Forbort's play so far this season. I have not seen them play enough to really be able to weigh in. I see both have decent numbers for Freshman, especially for a mature program that does not lean heavily on new comers.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

It'd be a socialist school if every schoolchild were forced to go there. It's a state-run school, but other options exist in the private sector, which socialism entirely lacks. (hence the point of socialism) What you are saying makes no sense.

Nope, that would be totalitarianism. Very different actually. I'd rather talk hockey that discuss political science. But since you brought it up, North Dakota is one of the most socialist states in the country. We have a State Bank and a State Mill and Elevator, both of which compete DIRECTLY with the capitalists in the state.

I've been impressed with Brock. He has shown some really good flashes, and if he puts a little more meat on those bones I really think he'll be one the Sioux's better forwards the next few years.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

If UND goes to Green Bay as a #1 seed, count on UW(if they make the NCAA's) being in the same bracket...also, BC is looking pretty good for a #1 seed as well and would likely stay out East to protect the gate/attendance...

the seminoles reached an agreement with the ncaa that their nickname keepsake wasn't hostile and abusive, obviously all of this is clearly hypocritical as you could even extent all of this to home of the ncaa, INDIANapolis, in INDIANa, ad nauseum. und settled with the ncaa that we had 3 years to get both tribes to agree (and the attorney general said a year after that original agreement was struck that und was lucky b/c the ncaa as a private institution can determine whatever rules it likes for its members, as it is a private institution. if und kept fighting sioux and the attorney general sue'd the ncaa, what are the odds of the ncaa allowing und to keep the nickname? i don't think it would be good, und just risks not being in the ncaa, which means they travel around and play canadien clubs? wow, how exciting, yawn.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

i am saying their is no way that wisconsin makes the ncaa's. i give them credit that they have beaten the teams that they should, i.e, michigan tech, alaska anchorage, bemidji state, minnesota state etc. but they will continue to falter down the stretch as i think they only get at best 1 of 4 points at st.cloud and maybe get a split with cc. i don't know where they will finish, i am predicting they finish 7th and have to go to cc, where even if they win out there in 3 games they do not win a game @ the final 5 and finish 16th in the pair, just missing an ncaa invite.

as for brock nelson, he has definitely started playing more consistent, as he was barely noticeable in long stretches in games the first half of the year. after the world juniors, he started to play with more confidence and now he has fully assimilated the things he has learned throughout the year and had gotten much better. i would give forbert a b+, he has been good, but i don't think he is anything like eric johnson (u of m) his freshmen year. he should have a year like blood did his sophmore year, which would be a great year......

...the ncaa is a private institution and can impose any rules on its members that it wishes...

True. It's their org - they can make their own rules. But a good organization is cognizant of the effects of rule changes on their members. The Fighting Sioux brand was built over time and at great expense. The "offense" the NCAA took over the nickname was a relatively sudden termination of a major profit center - and with no terms or alternatives offered. Even if purely on principle, UND was right to fight it.

...North Dakota is one of the most socialist states in the country. We have a State Bank and a State Mill and Elevator, both of which compete DIRECTLY with the capitalists in the state.

That's a fact, Jack. N.D. is Republican, conservative... and highly socialist. Almost as weird as Alaska (NRA liberals and pot-head conservatives).

Sorry. Back to hockey.

except for the fact that behind the leadership of the spineless jack-azz Kelley, UND basically give up the fight before it started. It took the politicians to try to take it out of UNDs and the state board of educations hands...
