University of North Dakota... the March past March

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

They are winning 3-2 in the 3rd...hold on UAA!

Who would have thought that UND would get that much help on a night when they got a tie.
Hopefully the Sioux can come out tomorrow and get the win to stay in front of DU and UMD.
Yeah, I really thought we would have to sweep SCSU this weekend to hold onto first place. The fact that we did less than win and increased our lead going into tonight is shocking! But I'll take it. :) A win tonight would put us in really good shape going into the final two weekends. So GO SIOUX!!!!!!!!!!

Sioux with the gritty win tonight to keep the WCHA lead... looked a little lethargic at times but still got it done. Reffing was terrible once again but what can one expect from the clown named shepherd. Black business suits still doing the job.

A gritty win to say the least. It certainly looks as though SCSU has turned a corner and is playing up to their preseason hype. They could just as easily have taken three points out of this weekend.

Next weekend should be fantastic. State Hockey will be in the house, so we have a Sat/Sun afternoon series. The women will be hosting their first ever playoff series (at Purper). To top it off, the MacNaughton Cup will be in the house!!

Here is the scenario where UND skates the Cup around the Ralph Sunday afternoon...assuming Denver holds on and beats Tech and UNO beats UAA this evening.

North Dakota takes 4 points, UNO takes 2-3 points, UMD takes 3 or less points

Nice weekend against an improved SCSU team.
Taking 3pts and still increasing the WCHA points lead is a great result for this weekend.
Time to take out BSU next weekend. They always seem to play UND tough at the REA, so nothing is a given.
Have to take care of business to prevent DU from sneaking into 1st place...

Yeah, the games have to be played. And as MTU showed last night, anyone can beat anyone else on any given night. But given our remaining schedule vs that of the other three contenders, I like our chances of hoisting the MacNaughton Cup this year. It is ours to lose. Win the games we're supposed to win, and it comes back to Grand Forks. :)

More than any year I can remember, there's a huge boost to finishing first. Namely playing the only WCHA team that's not a TUC in the first round, and avoiding the Thursday games at the WCHA Final Five.

(Second place also avoids the Thursday games ... but the first round opponent becomes more formidable.)

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

UND apparently has a devoted and vocal fan base. Good for UND. A significant number of these fans are simultaneously devoted and vocal opponents of what they call socialism, big government and liberal education. Bad for UND. The benevolence of alumni does not remove UND or any other state university from the roster of "socialist" (tax supported) universities supported by "big government" (state and federal) taxes and offering a "liberal" education.
It must be difficult to decide which "socialist" organizations to embrace and which to despise. Maybe a home-school hockey league or a seminary hockey league could solve this dilemma.

did you forget your lithium today?

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

I support state universities, even UND, but I don't much care for one-way hypocrites. Smearing the messenger will not reconcile support for public school athletic programs and demands to end government aid to public ("socialist") schools.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

It'd be a socialist school if every schoolchild were forced to go there. It's a state-run school, but other options exist in the private sector, which socialism entirely lacks. (hence the point of socialism) What you are saying makes no sense.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

I'm confused, I was under the impression that this was a college hockey board. Does he do this often...?

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

I wish Karl Marx could be reincarnated so he could be made the President of UND.

Now, that was amusing!

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

The Sioux are sitting at #1 in the latest USCHO poll. Very split opinions concerning who is #1 between UND, BC, and Yale after last weekend's results. The Sioux are also at #1 in KRACH and #2 in PWR a the moment. The polls really don't mean anything, but hopefully the guys will live up to those lofty rankings/expectations down the stretch.
