University of North Dakota... the March past March

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Frattin finished with a commanding lead in the fan voting, 2,413 out of 4,884 votes cast, or 49.4% of the votes cast. :)

When is the Hobey Hat Trick announced? I thought I had heard something where it was today...

EDIT: Nevermind. Thursday is when they announce the Hat Trick.

Why not just announce it now? It's obviously going to be MMFF, Miele and some eastern sap, probably Atkinson.

with everyone saying that Frattin has no character and is obviously not worthy of the award

Yes, all the teams I felt would challenge the sioux were dropping like flies. I thought Yale, Denver, and BC should have given them a game but we all know how that turned out. So I do think now if they don't walk to the title it should be disappointment.

All UND fans should be extremely proud of this team's work ethic (no walking for this team). It shows on the ice and in the post game interviews.

The media has commented on the focus of the Sioux players and described it as being scarry. You can sense the intense unshaken focus on the task before them. In the interview you can see how Hextall and Genoway handled the interviews like like professionals. No sense that the Sioux were excited or happy to have defeated Denver and moved on, and rightfully so, because this team has not accomplished its goal yet.

Also in the Denver interview you can see that Denver understood what they were up against and yes the Denver players were dissapointed but not at all supprised at the outcome.

National Championship or not I think that I can safely say that in 15+ years of watching the Fighting Sioux that this if my favorite senior class, they're certainly a special group. Between Genoway's decision to stay, Frattin's return, and the incredible work ethic of the seniors this year, its just been a great group to watch. Not to take anything away from the rest of the roster at all, this has absolutely been a total team effort each and every night, but our seniors have really managed something special.

Thanks for a tremendous season guys, regardless of what happens in St Paul.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Congrats to the Fighting Sioux for securing a spot in the FF. I really thought Denver would be a closer game. I bleed Beaver green, but now it's time to pull for you guys. "OLD TIME HOCKEY EH"

I had multiple photographers come up to me in the media room and ask: “What? No celebration at all?”

Mike Commodore: “Fighting Sioux crush DU 6-1…frozen four ticket punched…next up Mich..NCAA loves Mich..UND will have to battle Mich and pro Mich refs.”

Hakstol also is a finalist for the Spencer Penrose award for the national coach of the year. He has been a finalist for this award six times in his seven years at UND.

In seven years as a college coach, Hakstol’s teams now have two more NCAA tournament victories than Dean Blais’ teams have in 12 years, which is somewhat surprising considering Blais’ teams won two national championships.

Dell now ranks No. 1 in the nation in goals-against average (1.81), winning percentage (.816) and shutouts (six).

Captain Chay Genoway had a fantastic weekend, racking up five assists, a plus-3 and joining with Andrew MacWilliam to shut out each opponent’s top line. UND tried to match Genoway and MacWilliam on the Drew Shore line.

Corban Knight was 23-12 on faceoffs this weekend.

If there were regional champion hats, UND didn’t put them on.

If Frat Party Frattin wins the Hobey this year...they will need to remove 1, 2, & 3 from this list moving forward if they want to have any credibility:

Hobey Baker Award Criteria
1. Candidates must exhibit strength of character both on and off the ice.

2. Candidates must contribute to the integrity of the team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game.

3. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportmanship.

4. Candidates must comply with all NCAA rules: be full time students in an accredited NCAA college or university; and complete 50% or more of the season.

Um...no.

Matt CLEARLY meets criteria 2, 3, and 4. Those narrow minded people.... like yourself will debate criteria #1. But you're a Gopher fan, so you're not going to change your mind anyways. IMO, he meets all the criteria and there are lots of those people out there that are not judgmental that agree with me.

It's also important that the Hobey Baker is based on one year...the current year. Frattin hasn't had any issues on or off the ice, and has shown extraordinaly character coming back after last year.

The judges will decide that for themselves. As far as what anyone else has to say about it, I don't care.

Hmmm... why aren't there regional champion hats? There are in basketball. This must just be another statement by the NCAA to show the insignificance of hockey and sacrifice hats as a lame cost cutting measure.

EDIT: come to think of it, why not cut out the nets while we're at it? :D

I'm pretty sure I saw Michigan putting on regional champion hats. And cutting out the nets would be great! :D

Frat Party is a dirty player, and therfore he does not meet 2...he is a cheap shot artist just like HaksTool taught him to be...just ask Wehrs.

Hakstol must not be a very good teacher since UND is 6th in penalty minutes. Frattin has 21 penalties for a grand total of 42 minutes served, since your math is probably as bad as your judgement I will help (21X2=42). I know that doesn't mean anything to you but the rest of us notice that not one of those penalties is a major which further disproves your statement.

1 Minnesota Duluth 40 597 14.9
2 Minnesota 36 528 14.7
3 Wisconsin 41 601 14.7
4 Denver 42 615 14.6
5 Nebraska-Omaha 39 569 14.6
6 North Dakota 43 623 14.5
7 Michigan Tech 38 528 13.9
8 Alaska Anchorage 37 504 13.6
9 Colorado College 45 600 13.3
10 Minnesota State 38 500 13.2
11 St. Cloud State 38 456 12.0
12 Bemidji State 38 429 11.3

Try a new hat, the one you are wearing is old and used. Think, speak, repeat.

If knocking Kevin Wehrs into next week makes a player dirty, he must have a long list of dirty players.

Re: University of North Dakota... the March past March

Hmmm... why aren't there regional champion hats?

At first this looks like a dumb question after considering UND's refusal to touch any award that isn't a NCAA Championship trophy.

Were hats made for Denver only because the NCAA had advance knowledge that UND didn't want regional champion hats?
If such hats exist they would make nice novelty items just don't expect any Sioux player to autograph it.

Someone on Brad's Blog commented that the event staff brought out a box of hats, but were told to take them away. The players wouldn't have worn them.

They didn't wear the Final Five Championship hats either (a full box of hats sat on the bench), and I don't recall seeing MacNaughton Cup hats.

I'm sure opposing fans and members of the media will take more shots at the Sioux for this, but I highly doubt the team cares. The senior class made the decision and they are sticking to it.

The question was not specific to the sioux. But sounds like MI had them, so maybe it was a per region thing? I didn't stick watch any of the celebrations of the finals but didn't notice or see any hats. They do this for the super bowl, and don't they ship the extras off to Africa somewhere? They are usually kept on a pretty short string so no one ever sees them.

This has got me wondering now, what did happen when the trophies were presented? Did the captains just tell the commish to plop it down on the ice? Did some member of the staff physically accept the trophy? Someone had to put it on the ice, so who? I had already shut off the TV in anger by the time all this went down.
