University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

Re: University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

I'm getting excited. We fly out tonight.

Just found out my cousin's kid is traveling with the hockey band. Made me reminisce. He's a sophomore. My first ever Frozen Four was my sophomore year, in St. Paul. Hopefully the team has a better result then they did 16 years ago.
Glad you're going to make it WT. If OSU advances I'm driving up so if I'm there and you see me be sure to say hi!
Almost feel compelled to go, UMICH wants HIS beer now! LOL!

Skip work, start driving. Get there for Thursday. How often does your team make the frozen four?
I'll be sure to say hi if I see you. I enjoyed meeting you in Columbus.

Sound advise but this trip is going have to be on the slimmest of budgets so no hotel, there & back drive if we advance. (Need to save enough money for UMICH's beer!)

Best of luck against the Irish!

Re: University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

Having been born and raised in the Peoples Republic of Ann Arbor, it's physically impossible for me to root for OSU or Notre Dame. And because the NCHC left the WCHA for dead, I can't back any of those schools either. And since U of M is in Michigan and your coach played at Tech while I was a student, I'm cheering for Michigan to win it all.

IMHO, y'all need to stop wearing all of that maize gear and go back to blue. It's hard to hear "Go Blue" coming from a sea of yellow... ;)

What a heartbreaking way to end a season.

Especially given a game that winnable, you lose it with less than 10 seconds to go.

Still, this team did much better than all of us anticipated, so we should be very happy for them to get this far. This will take a while for the sting to go away.

Oh man. You hit the nail on the head.

Well I was rooting for you guys. I was hoping for us to play you for the title, would have been fun!

Troll alert! (this is your first and final warning)

...
...

UM's second goal wasn't puck luck? :)

It think it's fair to "complain" that ND's 3rd and 4th goal had a degree of puck luck, whereas our 2nd had it. So, in theory, that's a little more puck luck for ND than us.

But a more realistic point is that Notre Dame had 2 players that went all 60 min, when it really mattered. We had 3 guys available to cover two, and it didn't quite work out. So Notre Dame really fought for that luck to even matter. They really earned it. Which sucks to say.

25 times and counting....

Oh you were talking to Hockybuckeye, fairpoint. Oh yea, the beers in the X were what $10? It bummed me out that ohio state lost and I didn't get my beer. Did I just say that?

Re: University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

My husband texted me, "Cooper Marody to Edmonton" and I freaked out. I love that my hubby is becoming a big college hockey fan, but he has much to learn. I explained to him that his text had me thinking Cooper left, which I couldn't understand with Regionals this weekend. If we lose this weekend and he's gone, that I understand, I won't like it, but I'll understand.

He's gone... http://mgoblue.com/news/2018/4/8/ice-hockey-marody-signs-pro-contract-with-nhls-edmonton-oilers.aspx

Thanks, Cooper, for the 2.5 seasons on the ice. Good luck for your career going forward.

Re: University of Michigan, 2017-2018, a new era starts

Good luck to Marody and to all our seniors in their future endeavors. It's been fun watching them play.

Do we have other flight risks? Is it too early to look forward to next season?

At the beginning of the season it felt like a rebuilding year, new coach, young team, mediocre start. To see this team finish top half of the conference, get into the NCAA tourney and win a couple to make it to the Frozen Four was far more than I expected. So proud of our Wolverines.

Now, I'm hopeful looking at next season. We return a team that has played for Mel for a year now. The major contributors we lose are Calderone, Dancs, Piazza as seniors and Marody as a junior. We'll see if we lose others.

Cecconi has developed well as a junior.

Whoever drafts Quinn Hughes could change his destination for 2018-19, like the AHL.

Cecconi really has stepped up his game, and it will be interesting to see how the Stars talk to him this summer.

More interesting is Hughes- IMHO, he's still not ready for the NHL- REALLY close, but not quite yet. The question will be if the team who drafts him tells him to stay put, or develop in their program. But his play fits right into the skill style play that the NHL is currently using, no doubt about that.

Had Lockwood played all season, I would have expected him to leave, too- but he's already announced he's staying. And had Lockwood played all season- I think Slaker and Norris would have had a much better second half, and they would be a flight risk, too. But I just don't see it in them, yet. Solid, but not there. If I were to guess next season- Lockwood and Norris go, Slaker likely. They were electric together in the beginning of the season.

Take it for what it is worth but I heard months ago that the Red Wings were really high on Hughes. I also heard that if they draft him they want him in the AHL and not college. So basically Hughes is a goner...

BTW alfa, I think that you broke the curse (at least for you- my curse still stands). You started this thread and Michigan made the Frozen Four in a "down year" (or so we thought). Rest easy, you can start next season's thread in June if you want.
