University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Niemo will get a regular shift, he was hurt last year and that set him back.

He had a "Friend" on the Maine Hockey Facebook page last year that kept criticizing the coaching staff for not playing him. Which made me think he just wasn't getting the system or fitting in. I was kind of surprised he came back. But if he had that rough of a year and came back an injury setback would make more sense.

Friend Aka relative or parent ;)

He just wasn't up to the level last year we will see this year.

OT - I know Jordan Steven's by all accounts is a great guy, but to get mashed at home by the same QB that used to play for you and transfer out..well..his seat should be getting warm.

Niemo was very impressive at the Colby game.

so I can believe an injury slowed him down. Niemo getting noticed when the top line was putting on Kariya clinics means he played quite well!

I was thinking Mitton too. If you watch him play he is a right shot that sets up for one timer off wing well like Bradley did.

I’ll throw out a guess at lines…

Lines:
******
Mitton(4.0)/Breen(4.0)/J.Nadeau(4.5)
Freel(3.5)/Scott/Scholle(3.5)
Makar(3.5)/Renwick(4.0)/Fowler(3.75)
Pichette(3.5)/Russell(3.75)/Niemo(3.5)

Pairings:
*********
Brazeale(3.5)/Djurecevic(3.75)
Holt(3.5)/Charbrier(3.75)
Lesakowski(3.75)/Antonacci(3.75)

Goalies:
********
Bioja
Berzins(3.75)

Reserves:
**********
RW- Califiore(3.5), Carney
C - Komarov(3.5)
LW- ?

RD - Arnott(3.5), Dalton(3.5)
LD - Nobes(3.5), Morse(3.5)

G - Gage Stewart

I don’t see Arnott sitting unless he’s injured and I don’t see Antinacci playing ahead of him. Perhaps they are the “extra skaters”

and God I hope Carney turned it around snd recovered and sped up, it would be great to have his size out there when opponents think about cheap shotting Josh behind the play.

Anyone with any intel on Oskar Komarov?

There’s not much about him online other than the normal hockey database profiles, that don’t say much, and a weird skills competition video. There were numerus guys that could have come in this fall that statistically looked better. I was curious about their decision to sign him late and have him come in over all the other guys that have been in the pipeline for a long time.

From what I gather strong skater, strong on the puck, good in transition, power forward.

He is an ‘03 birth year so he can’t play junior anymore. So likely he is a non-scholarship or partial scholarship.

If a spot is open but not filled with a player that can play much it is better not to rush a player in early for their development. There also might not be any scholarship money for him? That we don’t know.

Let’s say you bring in a guy early but he can’t crack the line up, it is sort of a wasted eligibility year. In Komarov’s case he has no option but to play now so likely he is not offered much if any scholarship money.

Who knows, perhaps wont become a great player, probably wasnt on any of the top teams radar. But Barr found Brezeale who was sitting home with no D1 offers.

Very true. It is interesting to note he has an older brother that played just under 500 NHL games with similar size. So he could be a project player that blossoms late. His skating appears to be a strength and he has good size.

Oskar Komarov has an nhl brother, or Breazeale does?

That amount of money boggles the mind in the context of Maine athletics. I wonder how much of it will be earmarked for NIL. It's kind of a tricky era in terms of figuring out the allocation of resources necessary to keep Maine sports as relevant as possible.

Speaking of NIL, the University of Tennessee is adding a 10% surcharge onto tickets *cough* to help with NIL expenses *cough*. A UT alum did the math and calculates that's an extra $23.8 million just from six football games.

Not to be outdone, NC State has gone to 30%

Wonder how much our ticket prices will be increasing.

I don’t think raising ticket prices 10% would move the needle very much, maybe $200k or so. If Maine has a season similar to last year they might raise them some but doubt it will be because of NIL.

I wonder how much the Uni is leaving on the table by keeping the band in DD.

Can imagine they can help offset some of an eventual ticket price increase by simply moving them back to the balcony where they belong and freeing up that paid seating.

Have they sorted out the ADA issues that caused them to be moved in the first place?

Wasn’t it a disabled band member issue?

Let's put it on the line boys and girls. Whose with me. These guys can win Hockey East this year. I think this may be the best team Barr has had top to bottom.
