University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Can someone walk me through how to block/hide people on here? I come here for hockey talk, not fantasies about elderly men's genitals.

Also disappointing to see Eperjesi isn't coming in this year. The blue line is pretty crowded but I thought he could add some much needed size.

Click on the drop down menu next to your name in the top right of the page, select "User Settings," click "Account" and scroll down to where it says "Ignore List." Then type in the name of who you want to ignore. Once you've typed it, don't click enter or anything, their name should appear in a list and you can click on it. Don't forget to "Save Changes."

Also a semi-monthly plea to all to please be judicious when you quote to respond to certain people. Those of us with a more liberal use of the block feature appreciate it.

That log jam is probably why he got pushed back another year. Barr must feel pretty comfortable playing guys on their off-hand since this team has a lot of right-hand D on the roster.

Ice is back in the rink and the team has blocks of practice time starting right off in july.
SO when do we see a roster?
The umaine mens hockey FB has been slowly dribbling out new player info one at a time.

Got to see Ryan Lomberg get a lap with the Cup tonight. Can't stand Florida but happy for him.

Watched the entire series just to see Ryan earn a ring. He's a journeyman but he contributes. Very happy for him.

Was too old and tired to recall such a thing, but who from Maine last earned one? Bish with TB?

Hutton got a ring last year with Vegas.

Prior to him it was Torts, Howard, Darling, and Penner twice.

Right. I kinda forgot because he was a healthy scratch for the Conference finals and the Cup series. Having noted that, he's had a 10 year NHL career, and was one Hell of a college player. First saw him at St. Lawrence in 2012 and had a beer with his dad in Ogdensburg after the game. That was an interesting chat. Timmy came up a couple of times lol.

Not hockey related but the new basketball facility....Morse Arena has been budgeted at $106 million. It is still in the design phase and construction is scheduled to start in 12-18 months. New Balance Soccer & Track Complex is budgeted at $27 million.

I can only find stories about Howard NOT getting his name on the cup

did he?

I don't remember him winning one with the Wings, but there's a lot of s**t I don't remember these days.

Not going to Google it, either. Let one of the young bucks do it. Those kids know all about the Intraweb, God bless 'em.

Jimmy Howard had a 14 year NHL career, all with the Red Wings, but the closest he came to getting his name on the Cup was in '08 when he was the emergency (3rd) goalie behind Chris Osgood and Dominik Hasek, the latter of whom was a 42 year old playoffs back-up to Osgood, playing the final 4 games of his own storied 16 year NHL career, as the Red Wings won their 11th (and last to date) Stanley Cup championship. A year later, basically it was UNH's own Ty Conklin (who carved out a 10 year NHL career, mostly as a backup) who had taken over for the now-retired Hasek, with Howard once again serving as the 3rd goalie, as this time the Wings lost in 7 games to the Penguins in the '09 SCF. Howard's first year as an NHL starter came the following season (2009/2010), and he was pretty much the starter for the entire decade that followed.

The last couple of years, both Osgood and Howard have been staples of the DRW television broadcast team, doing mostly studio analysis along with NHL HOF'er Larry Murphy. Osgood is a natural, and Howard is a little more restrained, I wouldn't be surprised if he tries something else in the future (i.e. he's not a natural - yet anyway). The legendary Mickey Redmond continues well into his 70's as the primary ice-level color guy for TV broadcasts, and shows no signs of stepping aside anytime soon, having knocked back a raft of health-related issues.

With all the changes to NCAA and student athletes making money how will Orono attract student athletes so those new buildings will have winning teams? Going to be interesting.

I believe that Maine will fare better than some
of their NE peers.

Looks like Jack Capuano has a new NHL gig, joining the Minnesota Wild as an assistant coach.

Expected to handle defense and penalty kill responsibilities for them. He had a similar role in Ottawa the last few seasons but arguably inherits a more talented blueline to work with in Minnesota.

Exciting times in Orono! Will Maine join the BIG or SEC? Ha!

Do they have enough funds to maintain all these new facilities. Suppose their thinking they can generate revenue to do that. Theres a big push to attract high school teams to use these facilities for certain events.

I believe that some money from the Alfond fund is set aside for that.....but yeah I would hope increased revenue generation by these facilities will help pay for their maintenance. I'm thinking that concerts may be in the cards for the new Morse Arena. It will probably have a concert capacity of somewhere around 5K.
