University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Right, which is why I don't think Maine will be going after a guy like him.

Why not try to have two great goalies? That way if someone misses the most important game of the year there isn’t a big drop off in net.

Matt Copponi the leading scorer for Merrimack evidently is in the transfer portal. He was Merrimack’s best player by far when watching. Lots of energy, fast, creative, etc…

What a bad call there, got to the puck before BC and hardly any contact, and then a dive

You'll probably have two great goalies anyway, between Boija and Berzins. I just dont see the point in spending portal resources and energy to go after a position that will be reasonably fortified, especially with an intriguing incoming freshman.

Copponi on the other hand is a guy they should be pursuing.

OT 4-4 Heck of a game. Q went into prevent a little early if you ask me. 1 goal is diddly squat against BC

Missed scoring chance in 3rd wide open net and shanked it. A really lame clear attempt in front of the goal by QU sends them packing. Dam.

Can we get a translation on this one, folks??? I mean, here I am, giving the poor slob a polite correction on how to use the proper word while criticizing yours truly ... and the ingrate doubles down on stupid?!?

Think or say what you will, folks, but I've done nothing but try to be a nice guy on here this year. Even admitted multiple times how jealous I am that you guys snagged Barr, while we're stuck with MS7. Conceded you guys were the better team all along, and admittedly guilty only of rooting for UNH to prove me wrong (which of course they didn't).

How many of you folks predicted in preseason that UMaine would finish Top Four in HEA, and make the NCAA's?

Show of hands, please (both of mine are raised) ... hmmmm ... not too many ... but I did, on here, in writing.

... I mean, isn't that the opposite of "trolling"??? ((asking only the 80% with room temp plus IQ's))

Chuck and I had many a disagreement during his WIS days. And i don't have the time or energy to compete on USCHO these days. But, Chuck it will not surprise you to know that when I saw the coaches poll at the start of the year pick Maine as 9th I said to my closest friends we will be in the Garden and will be in the tourney. Was so great to be in Springfield. But the weakness with regards to depth and size was ever present vs. both BU in Boston and Cornell in Springfield. You can't have your 4th line take a shift a period and on that shift turn the puck over for a goal or take a penalty. Meanwhile they beat the heck out of the top 3 lines. Ostman had it 1-0 when we went 5 minutes on the major that was the difference. Definitely not the goalie he was last year or early this year, but can't score just 1 goal and expect to win. Watching Cornell play Denver, have to say Cornell was so impressive in that game and probably deserved better.

You have very little hockey content. If there is any, it isn’t noticeable because it is embedded in a 2 page essay of nothingness.

If you look up “verbal diarrhea” it has your name and ugly mug - Chuck Murray of Newfields, NH. Is it true that they based the stapler guy of the movie “The Office” after you? Or is that just a rumor swirling around the UNH hockey fans at the regionals.

Ignore!

and Matthew Wood would be an awesome upperclassman addition to the Black Bears. I’m kinda surprised Nashville [?] isn’t signing him

I think we could all agree that Maine could use a little more size, especially up front. Since I was curious, I did some research on our incoming freshmen and their height and weight, since it wasn't on my chart. Most of them are, as you imagine, on the smaller side, with Coccomiglio being the smallest at just 5'8", 168 lbs. Notables include Kuzma 6'0 194, Cisar 6'0 183, James 6'0 170, and Pichette 5'11 181. But the one that really stands out, as the biggest recruit by far, is James Taylor at 6'6, 225 lbs. I had previously listed him as one of the recruits likely to fall thru, but after seeing that, maybe he sticks around to bring some muscle to the lineup.

After watching this weekends hockey...we all know that Maine is still in the rebuild/retool process...size and strength is needed...better transition out of there own end...thinking and this is just imo that Bojia/Berzins could be a solid tandem (hopefully)...we are in year 4 of Barrs plan which in each and every year has improved....but all in all Maine hockey this season was fun again and Alfond was back to being the ace in the hole as far as a team advantage....it should be a interesting off season as they very well could add a player or two thru the Portal.
