University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Carolina doesn't have an AHL team

Great catch, wally ... wasn't aware of the situation until you pointed it out. Good article in The Hockey News on the situation, the work-arounds, and the impact on the Hurricanes' organization below:

What Lack of AHL Affiliate Means for Carolina Hurricanes - Carolina Hurricanes News, Analysis and More (thehockeynews.com)

Waddell says the organization plans to have its own affiliate again next season, and with the recent spate of signings (Nadeau, Scott Morrow and others) that might be a signal they're ramping up plans to populate their own TBD affiliate ... or they're just making sure to get their guys signed before their rights expire. The article points out several instances of players where Waddell pretty much had to let their rights expire, because they wouldn't be able to control their situations and development sufficiently. Another potential explanation for Carolina's early action is that with Josh an undrafted free agent from an NHL perspective, Carolina wants to make sure they sign Bradly before someone else gets the genius idea of waiting until the younger Nadeau's draft rights expire, and make a bid to keep the brothers together somewhere away from Carolina?

Then again ... there was an indication in late '23 that the Wolves and Carolina might be on the mend, so who knows?

Yep..see Paul Kariya and Scott Stevens. The difference is Paul Kariya was ready after 1 year. Bradly is not.

Yep. And NorthMike was right, as I think you realized as well. The smaller, talented guys will always take a beating from the large, talent-less hacks. Which makes being ready for the next level that much more important. I wish North American hockey would take a page from rugby and change the rules to remove goonery. I watch hockey to see skating, shooting, scoring, great defense. If I wanted to see fights I'd turn on boxing, UFC, or WWE (or whatever they call that nonsense now). That's why I like college hockey. (And why I used to go to women's squeakball at Maine - it isn't all pushing and shoving under the net.)

Rugby is a great sport, the intl tournaments are one of my favorites to watch. A hooligan game played by gentlemen.

As in additions not subtractions....need to get back to stability going forward into the off season. Must have been and still is a trying time for the Coaching staff.

Barr is intense and pushes the guys hard, including Im guessing, sending them on after the season if they arent fully invested. This certainly will lead to an unstable environment for a while. Hopefully when his system and culture are fully installed things will become more stable.
Barr is still learning too.
I have faith, his energy and drive is what this program has lacked for a loooong time.

Losing Bradly after a year definitely shocked me. I don’t think I’m alone in thinking he’s not ready for the big leagues. He isn’t even 19 for another month. Hoping Josh sticks around but can’t fault him if he bolts. Those boys sure were fun to watch.

In Barr we trust at this point, I believe in the track we are on and have full faith in him putting the pieces back together. Team will look much different next year but my feeling is the culture is continuing to build and we will see many more 20ish point scorers and less 40+ plus. Team effort and defensive effort will carry this team to another successful season. If Josh does decide to come back, in tandem with Breen, this team still has the potential to be a contender.
