University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Looks like they have depth at center to compensate for losing Hanson.

Not much left from the group that came in at the beginning of last season for Maine. Any more to go?

That class was massive. Although it feels like a lot have moved on, Freel, Holt, Chabrier, Arnott, Antonacci and Carney still remain.

A shame it didn’t work out with Trudeau. Had high hopes for him. His biggest crutch was his skating which I don’t think ever got to the level it needed to be to play in this system.

My guess is that Maine will fall somewhere in the middle, as far as the short term goes anyway. If they were a feeder school, you'd see more than the three guys, none of whom were key contributors, be in the portal than we have seen. I.e, like Northern Michigan, who has 13 (!!!) players currently in the portal. But if they were a destination, they'd land guys like Wood, et al, which I find very unlikely that they will.

Yup.

Maine is in limbo now.

The NB have a geographical reason to stay in Maine, but not so much anyone else.

This next season or two will be crucial for Barr. (Not that he's responsible for Red burying the program for 10 long years.)

Not worried about that one. He was never a #1 D-1 goalie. And I don't see him making a career in any sort of professional hockey.

I wish him well, but he clearly is another Sullivan type.

I m pretty sure he was the only goalie in the country who went 1-0-1 against BC (two games with no losses) this past season

and i think he was 5-1-2 against them in career games he started against bc…the only loss coming his freshman year

he showed flashes…maybe the right goalie coach will help? Clearly the Kraken see something

Figure in the long run he goes back to Sweden...Finland or Germany and plays professionally there...he most likely with Seattle going to get a look at...and with young goaltenders head down to the ECHL..there goaltenders get more playing time then move up to the AHL.

Taylor Makar...36 games played..4 goals 5 assist during his Junior year...is bringing him in really going to move the needle..? More over is he going to improve the team as it is from this last previous season..? This Portal year may make or break Maine...I do know that it's early in on the Portal, but hoping they do add but as interesting a off-season it will be...I am a little worried they could take a step back...but then we shall see...that is why if Breen returns for a 5th season could ease some of the questions pertaining to the roster and moving forward expectations.

He has the size and speed combo. Fast skater given he is 6’ 3”, which is why he was drafted. But not sure it moves any needle. I picture him playing similar to Ben Poisson, only faster skater. Ben was a 3rd line left wing all year, once in a while 4th line left wing.

I expect incoming freshmen Kuzma and Cisar to be more regular scorers at left wing. This incoming transfer Fowler seems intriguing as well as long as the knee injury didn’t slow his skating.

I am ok with the moves...well some what..just hoping they reel in someone that can jolt the offense from line 1 thru 3...with 4 being a pesky/gritty line...if Breen stays eases some of that..if he leaves...then it's a revamped hockey team from last year's roster...but it's what's college hockey is about...

Biggest worry if Breen leaves is how thin they are down the middle. Scott, Renwick and a bunch of question marks.

I saw the same in the FB group, but I can't imagine Carolina saw anything when Brad played the upper echelon teams that would indicate he's ready for the NHL. Nor would I imagine he's running away from the situation in Orono. I suppose we will see.
