University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Niko could skate also, I used to go practices quite often, watching him skate the faceoff circles was a thing to behold. He would keep gaining speed, its was unreal the control he had. His mom was fun to talk too also. She was amazed that we thought he was great . Many Favorites over the years he is up there on the list
Talked to his family at a Lowell game many years ago. His uncle said "Nicky only skates when he has the puck". His Mom said something like "He thinks he's God's gift to the game of hockey, but he's got a rude awakening coming".

Funniest hockey family EVER! Great people.

Pretty hard to comment on this years recruits until we see them play as a team. Be tough to beat the Kariya, Ferraro twins class.
That class was easily Maine's best, hands-down. That was probably the best college hockey team ever. They were a few lazy periods away from going 45-0.

The '99 team wasn't nearly as deep, but they brought lunch buckets to the rink every time out. Ground it out against more talented teams more than once, especially in the NC game vs. an amazing UNH squad.

Loved them both for different reasons, but I wouldn't mind another class like the '93 crew.

I don't see this class as anywhere near as good as that, but I'm excited to see them play.

In Barr I trust. What a job he's done.

Any info on who?

I expect prospects to start signing after development camps with NHL teams
I would imagine Noah Read might be one of the potential players. He's been linked to Maine among a few other teams.

Have to think they've been scouting him along with Van Gorp in London.

From the development camp rosters I've seen so far:

Miguel Marques (NSH), Justin Poirier (CAR), Josh Nadeau (CAR), Harrison Scott (DAL), Frank Djurasevic (DAL), Taylor Makar (COL), Ross Mitton (NYI), Brandon Chabrier (NYI), Mikus Vecvanags (MTL) and Albin Boija (BOS).

Former Black Bears Connor Androlewicz (STL) and Felix Trudeau (MTL) will also be at dev camps.

I think Boija was supposed to be at Bruins camp.

Had him on my list as well but for some reason I didn’t add him.
One guy I am surprised by is Jaden Lipinski. I’m wondering if this means his draft rights expired and doesn’t get extended to 4 year after all? Because as a draft pick you would think he could go to the Flames camp if they still have his rights.

Anyone have other options for Maine gear other than the campus store? It’s $40 usd to ship a sweater and a ball cap to Canada. Am I just going to have to bite the bullet?

Any chance there is a Big Ten team coming in or is the big name home non-conference opponent going to be Holy Cross?

It seems unlikely. Only ND, MSU, PSU, and Wisconsin have any openings on their schedule.

MSU and ND already have east coast Hockey East swings scheduled, so I doubt they double dip. Penn State may consider it as they have a soft nonconference schedule. Wisconsin only has a mid season and the CCHA on the schedule, so they could use a bump as well.

I have no evidence for this aside from a gut feeling, but I do have said gut feeling that a rematch with PSU might be on the docket. As said, each side has an opening on their schedule, Maine could use a strong opponent for the home slate OoC, and there would be plenty of storylines and narratives. PSU's known OoC right now is a bit light as well, with @ASU (pretty strong), vs Clarkson (eh), and home+home with RIT (yikes), so maybe they also have the incentive to add a strong team for additional balance.

Yeah my gut feeling is that we see either Penn State or Wisconsin as well. I don't think Wisconsin travels East very often so Penn State is the best bet. That would give Maine 16 home games.....maybe the start of a home series with an ECAC (Colgate, St. Lawrence, Princeton, Cornell)?

Not to mention, I just remembered, Maine was supposed to play PSU OoC down at State College a few years ago, but it got canceled for C-19.
