University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Does anyone else feel like there is some serious $$$ flowing into the program now?
I have suspected this too but I have no factual evidence to back it up. Maine hockey feels like a cash machine right now. Between the hiring of Barr, the Alfond donation, facilities overhaul, success of the program, Maine feels like one of the it programs in the country.

The details are there as well, the jerseys look shaper, the white helmets are back with the white jerseys, these are little things but for whatever reason it felt like there wasn’t an ounce of extra money prior to Barr’s 3rd season. Now there’s a waiting list for season tickets and the buzz is back. It’s hard to tell because it’s not like we have eyes on the cash and slush fund of the program but it surely feels like they aren’t hurting for money the way they once did.

Someone is absolutely funneling money into the program I can pretty much tell you that. Barr is a good salesman there is a reason we have gone from a forgotten program to a full remodel in short time. Not to mention getting top tier talent

Huh. Wonder how Maine lucks out and hosts the Terriers for two games in consecutive seasons. Not that I'm complaining... Hope we still get Boston College in the Alfond twice.

Maine plays at BU on Crockpot Friday so there will likely be a road game that Sunday.

Tonight is the big draft show for the biggest basketball star to come out of Maine highschool basketball… Cooper Flagg, who will become a Dallas Maverick. Show comes on at 8 pm est on ABC and ESPN.

The NHL/NHLPA are working toward remodeling signing rights to expire at 22 yo regardless of the development league. How do y'all expect that to impact the NCAA? I see a lot of one and dones after juniors as teams have to bring players into the system.

McMahon described it as a "major win" for college hockey in his most recent newsletter.

On the one hand a player in CHL could have stayed in CHL and get redrafted if he didn’t like the team he was drafted to. Probably very small handful of players that would do that.

On the other hand a player could jump to NCAA to extend his NHL rights and that NHL team would likely want them too as it extends their draft rights with no cost to the NHL team/farm system. There would likely be more players trying to take advantage of that.

To some degree those two things balance out, with likely more CHL kids not feeling pressured to jump to NCAA just to extend the NHL teams draft rights.

I don’t think this is a major impact.

Being able to make money through revenue sharing when the visa issue is solved is a major impact. Being able to play against older competition is a major impact. Those two things are what will drive CHL players to NCAA the most.

To combat those would require USports to make their product better, and allow revenue sharing, etc… I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

What I expect is CHL to lose higher end players earlier than normal to NCAA. But at the same time I expect more high end US kids going to the CHL leagues instead of the NAHL or BCHL.

But not much of this is due to draft right expiration date in my opinion.
