University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Hard to forget the old days, BU was the enemy to us old timers. I can't believe a team with that much NHL talent would get rolled like that. Some of those guys will leave, it won't matter as they got a ton coming in again next season as well. Must be nice to have NIL money.

I still hate BU more than UNH and it really isn't even close.

It was a big weekend for the new pros from Orono. Breen, Mitton, and Renwick x2 all scored in their first few games. Renwick's second was assisted by none other than Dan Renouf. I wouldn't be surprised if Renwick gets an NHL opportunity to end this season or start next season for an abysmal Pens team.

Wish Niemo the best wherever he goes. I personally thought he was a little underrated and deserved more playing time.

This brings the Maine roster officially down to 10/11 defensemen, 12 forwards and 2 goalies as of now. I expect us to lose Morse and probably Arnott to TP. I would think if we were to lose someone to the pros they would of signed by now? Maybe they're waiting to finish the school semester up to keep their credits incase pro hockey doesn't work out for them?

So I think we should expect at least 2-3 more forwards and possible a goalie to commit/transfer to us before next season begins.

Edit: Morse is also in the portal now.

Seeing Alex Zetterberg from BU is hitting the portal as well. Would love if Barr could lure him up north.

His underlying numbers are strong even though he averaged <10 mins per game.

Very interested to see what Barr does with the forwards - would imagine we’d have a nice contingent of transfers headed our way. Still want Conmy…lol.

On Conmy: Word on the street was that he is interested in BU. I’m guessing he’s demanding some NIL too. Add that to the fact he would be committing treason going to rival Maine and I doubt it’s any sort of high enough chance. I’d put it at 5% or less. Not gonna happen.

I agree on transfers otherwise and/or recruits from CHL.

Many on the UHN threads thought Conmy spent a fair amount of time figure skating instead of playing balls to the wall hockey. I guess if you are talented enough, doing figure 8's out on the ice can be tolerated to some degreee but you know the type of player Barr wants.....hard working, team orientated guys. Im not sure Conmy fits into that mold.

I understand that they've watched Conmy much more than I have, but he's got the highest CHIP of any forward by a substantial margin. I think that the opinions on the UNH board might not be reflective of Conmy's actual value. UNH fans were wondering if they should be dropping into the AHA, meanwhile UNH finished 21st in the pairwise with the 11th hardest schedule in the country. I would take everything you read over there with a huge grain of salt.

Conmy has visited BC and BU so it's more than likely one of those two. I got a gut feeling the two RIT guys are Maine bound.

I hope you're right, but Mark McMahon is saying UMass.

I’m pretty sure I read a few weeks ago UMA has some NIL money to spend so that could be the difference. It wouldn’t shock me if Maine used a fair amount of whatever they have for NIL on Boija, Nadeau, and Holt.

I really can’t see Maine getting much elite talent without spending a lot on NIL. Hopefully Barr and others work hard on that over the summer.
