University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Was such a visual seeing that many Maine fans there. Not sure how many there will be in Allentown. That is a much bigger investment for most. I can’t swing it since I have money wrapped up in family vacation over April school vacation. Likely tonight is my last live in person viewing this year. I hope they organize some busses to make it cheaper for fans to get there at least.
Not so fast with the Allentown trip. Penn State is hosting and they are in the 4/5 and 12/13 group. It could get messed up with a Penn State /Minnesota match up that will have to be addressed. Fargo is still in play for Maine. BC will be in Manchester and Michigan State in Toledo.

Even watching it again made me emotional. My family and I spent so much time following Maine hockey back in the day , win or lose it was a blast. Last night reminded me of those days all over again. Congrats to the staff, the team, the folks behind the scenes who made it all possible. Still got 4 more games though so enjoy but get back to business :)

Was Corkum in the crowd last night? Thought I saw him and his wife when they panned the crowd.

Laughed hard when Josh was behind the net doing some pushing and shoving after the whistle with some UConn player. As they broke up, he points to the scoreboard.

Makar goal to make it 4 1 was huge, breathing room especially after all the games they lost leads in this season.

Breen has to go down as one of the best Captains I've ever seen at Maine. Not afraid to get dirty, will do what he has to win. Sets a great example.

How they played a whole game without penalties was a testament to how ready those guys were.

Not sure what else can be said about the dedication of Maine fans but even when Maine wasn't in a Frozen Four I always saw other Mainers where ever we were.

The red carpet video I saw was amazing. ALFOND SOUTH ! :)

However, I may add that I think the committee will address any of those concerns with a switch of Maine and UConn going to Allentown and Minnesota and Western Michigan going to Fargo for attendance reasons.

Congrats to my UMaine friends. Remember who predicted this would be the final breakthrough year, at least as far as the HEA title.

Coach Barr is a treasure, and I've admittedly been jealous of you guys since he was hired. But if he had to come to HEA as a head coach somewhere not located in Durham NH, I suppose I'm glad he ended up in Orono. No fanbases are as unswervingly loyal to their causes as UMaine and UNH. Go do some damage.

If it ends up
3 Maine
4 Minnesota
13 Pedo State
14 Minnesota State

That's an easy flip for the committee. For starters, the Goofers and Lions are in the same conference.

If it ends up with Western Michigan as the overall 4 that shouldn't change things.

It would be incredibly unfair of the committee to "reward" Maine for getting a higher seed to send them to Fargo to play Minnesota State (and presumably Minnesota) while WMU goes to Allentown.

...

Which is why that may happen. Fuck the NCAA.

Clarkson can make it all irrelevant anyway...

The hockey team will be arriving at Alfond Arena at 3pm in the parking lot between the arena and the football stadium. They have some hardware to show off to anyone who gathers there.

Also, there's some gear you can order in advance from Bear Necessities that will be in stock next week...

With a Cornell win

12 Quinnipac
13 PSU
14 Minnesota State

All eyes turn to the NCHC final for the last #1 seed.

If WMU wins
4 WMU
5 Minnesota

If Denver wins
4 Minnesota
5 WMU

A Denver win will therefore lock Maine to Allentown and Minnesota to Fargo because the Goofers and Lions cannot play in the first round. A Broncos win leaves the door open for the NCAA to do NCAA things and ship Maine to Fargo anyway.

I still don’t feel like cheering for Denver. Sat through that final in Boston and never will cheer for Denver. Just like I will never cheer for Minnesota after St. Paul. Besides Denver and Minnesota have had plenty of success. I don’t recall Broncos doing much? So go Broncos!

I love all the videos. Great for the fans back in Orono to greet the team. As I get older I really appreciate the signs and fans cheering from over passed and pulled over cars along the road.

And thanks for the opposing teams fans classy posts, like Chuck. It’s important to acknowledge when rivals and others tip their cap.

I know it doesn't matter at this point, but humor me for science: if RPI weighs opponents' opponents' win% 54% and only weighs opponents' win% 21% then Holy Cross beating Bentley is good? Seems counter intuitive.

The Manchester and Toledo regionals are easy

1 Boston College vs Bentley
Providence vs Denver

2 Michigan State vs Cornell
Boston University vs Ohio State

The easiest way to do Allentown and Fargo is

3 Maine vs Penn State
UConn vs Quinnipac

4 Western Michigan vs Minnesota State
Minnesota vs UMass

Hopefully the NCAA does that even though it slightly disturbs the serpentine bracket. I'm afraid the committee will get cute and do something like this

3 Maine vs Minnesota State
Minnesota vs UMass

4 WMU vs PSU
UConn vs Quinnipac

Even though that also disturbs (in a major way) the serpentine bracket, it does preserve the 4-13 and 3-14 matchups in the first round.
