University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Maine kills off the major.

Maine stoned three times all alone on the goalie. All younger players close to scoring but just couldn’t bury anything. Fowler, Komarov, and Pichette.

Nice touch by BC during warm ups having everyone in Gaudreau #13, Gaudreau #21, and Voce #13 jerseys. I wasn’t aware Tony Voce passed away suddenly this summer as well. He used to be one of those players you loved to hate. I will always remember Preston Ryan decking him into the end boards after he scored at Alfond on night causing a massive brawl. Apparently passed away of a heart attack at age 43. So sad. Left behind three daughters :(

Maine is wearing a special patch to honor all three players. Nice touch by Ben Barr.

BC gets a 5-minute major power play and Maine outshoots the Eagles 5-0. Outstanding kill!

On another note: has anyone stayed at Hotel Ursa on campus yet? I just booked for the Denver weekend. It'll be a shorter walk to and from Alfond than when I was a student lol. And no worries about parking or traffic!

Edit: BC finally gets its first shot on goal of the second with 5:50 remaining in the period.

That Mitton call is one of the worst I have seen in a while. Even the Boston callers thought it was a minor at worst.
 
Holy. Charbrier went over backwards twice. This time it’s a puck in front of the goalie and BC gets a clear try gift wrapped. Charbrier needs change that skate blade or something. Unreal.

That was probably the best period of hockey played by a Maine team in 20 years! To outshoot BC 5-0 on that BS call and just attack them relentlessly instead of sitting back and letting them come at us. BC has great talent, but they were impatient on that PP, never set-up and always tried to score the pretty goal. I am sure they will get better and may come at us in the 3rd in a big way. But so impressed with that period. AND the BC player writhing on the ice like he was out for the year to come back is bull bleep. IT was not even a penalty! Mitton led with the shoulder and knee to knee was incidental. I HATE knee-to-knee hits, they have no place in hockey, that was not one of them. Hopefully no blown tires in the third and they keep their foot on the accelerator!
 
If I’m Barr I keep the team pressing and don’t play passive defensive trap. BC will bring an onslaught if they try cling to 1 goal lead.

I’d tell them there is a day and a half of rest, so empty the tank if you have too. Put everything into getting these 3 points!
 
I thought BC had suspended their diving team!! Evidently not! It was a trip, but triple axel finish!
