University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Maine were a poor team in his sophomore year and he still managed 25 points in 33 games. He was a Hockey East second team all star and led the country with short-handed goals as a junior. Maine might be deeper this year, but he'll still be vital to its success. The season's only 4 games old.

Just tossing the idea around…….
I’m curious to see if Barr puts that top line back together tonight. Will it be “message received” by Breen and Nadeau and they have an impact game after being “demoted”?
If so, just make it a one last chance tonight and if that fails, back to last nights lines for Merrimack…
We’ve all seen coaching tools like this used to send the message with a good result. Hurt pride can be a great motivator.

Barr doesn’t seem to switch in a game and then back so fast. I think he might give those line changes a few games at least to see what develops.

One area the team the team could try to focus on improving is face offs. They were very bad there last night. Freshman Komarov went 0-6 on face offs. I’m guessing NU last change meant he went head to head with Williams line. But still, that lead to a lot of extra time of pessesion for NU.

Breen is off so far but he needs to play to get back into shape. He is a leader along with the great play in years past. Might take awhile but he will be a great player again.

Pretty sure Breens benching in the Quinnipiac game for OT was for the penalty he took at the end of the game. So I do wonder if that was carry over as well.

Breen blocked a puck in the leg, struggled to get off the ice and was on the bench in pain. Pretty sure thats why he didn't come out again in that game.

You do remember how bad those teams were correct? Especially the 7 win one. Pretty sure adding Sidney Crosby they may have won 12.

Yes I do remember how bad they were....and Breen was pretty much the best player or close to it at the time. He seems like a good kid that wears his heart on his sleeve and has been super loyal to the program. But anyone that has followed him will also admit that he has struggled on the ice since the 2nd half of last season. He's a smallish player and doesn't have a lot of strength IMO....even compared to players of similar size. I know it sounds like I am being harsh but I honestly feel like he is 3rd/4th line material in Maine's current line-up.

I think he's more of a Marchand type (not the same skills) in the sense you need him for a championship. He's a good grinder and gets under the other teams skin and gets them off their game. Fowler was supposed to be that but he's doing much better as the scoring type. Always appreciate some good hockey opinions thanks

Line up chart up on Hockey East. No changes.

Seems like Nadeau is due for a goal. I think if he plays quick and lets some one timers fly he’ll get there. He’s been collecting the puck and telegraphing leading to a lot of blocked shots. Gotta let it fly or quick touch to a teammate on the power play.

I won't be able to watch tonight, will have to follow on live stats. Hopefully they can lock in for a win, won't be easy.

What is more important than Maine hockey?

Even if your wife goes into labor have her delay it in favor of Maine hockey. :D

Same here on the radio though.
Hard to get a feel for the tempo and the game.

It's weird..I'll be watching again on ESPN+ but the game seemed slow last night. Maybe because I'm used to watching them live. The camera guy also was all over the place and it's a strange angle at Matthews.

He was in the first row of the balcony at center ice. So it is a steep angle down to the ice. So I assume that makes tracking the puck a bit more difficult because the movement needs to be quicker side to side.

I was in balcony last night and it was a fantastic view in person. I watched the replay today of the game last night and the video did not do it any justice at all.

I’m hoping Nadeau and Breen each break their scoring slump tonight. Fowler and Russell both played well last night. So these lines might turn out to be very good for Maine going forward.
