Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

And Utica it is for Jeremy Welsh to start the season. There was practically zero chance of his strarting the season with Vancouver at this late date.

Shawn Stuart picked up his 1st professional point (an assist) for Drakkars of the French Elite League this past Saturday.

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

Captain will be Matt Bodie. Alternates Dan Carr, Cole Ikkala and Ghost. Congratulations and good luck to them all.

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

Greg Coburn has been released from his tryout with the Portland Pirates.

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

Jooris - goal, assist in pro debut for AHL Abbotsford.

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

Some quick notes from the garnet-white game:

-Pontarelli looked VERY good. He looks like an impact freshman: sees the ice very well, was weaving through players in the offensive zone well, also had a goal.
-Cruice played with a lot of fire, he had a solid game
-Lichtenwald also had a solid game, had a couple of nice hits and moves well for a big man.
-Ikkala and Gingras both look like they are in better shape and faster from last year.
-Carr was a boss with 2 goals.

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

I was impressed with Lichtenwald also, moves very well and he is a mountain on skates. Noticeable by their absence on the ice were Ghost, Novak and Roy. All 3 were in street clothes.

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

Is it just me or does the schedule this year look like the toughest for the Dutchman in a long time. This might be called the "No Guts ... No Glory" schedule. It looks like most DI hockey programs start out picking a few weak DII teams or a weak Atlantic Hockey or a weak Canadian team to get warmed up. We are jumping right into the thick of things. The muscle we develop slugging it out with the top teams in the WCHA, NCHC and Hockey East will put us in good stead when the ECAC schedules starts up in earnest and wins could count allot towards getting us back to the NCAAs. Also, it looks like the ECAC starts the season with 4 of the top 20 or 3 of the top 15 teams. The competition in the ECAC could even be tougher than last year. This is going to be a special year for Union Hockey and College Hockey. This is going to be war .... take no prisoners. Go Dutchmen !!!!

Did not realize that the Big East is fielding a hockey conference. Go Georgetown :) .

Do you know why they didn't play last night?

Re: Union Hockey Official off Season Thread: Can U Three Peat?

Some more quick notes from my perspective.........thought that overall team speed was really really good , possibly faster than last year. The new goalie impressed me with his composure, I thought he had a good night

overall. I also was impressed with Lichtenwald, thought he played with a lot of confidence, as did Pontarelli and Taylor. Taylor does see the ice well and his outlet pass is on the money. Didn't notice Vecchione that

much, but I think we will soon enough. I thought the D of Henry and Taylor clicked, maybe they will be paired together , we'll see. Most noticeable players for their hustle and desire were Cruice, Gingras and IKKala.

I like this team, I think they love to play and come to play hockey, so far so good.
