Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I know that this example may not count for your line of reasoning, but I have had specific RPI fans call me names and make personal attacks on me on Facebook and on Twitter. There is one RPI supporter that I know who is so arrogant and narcissistic about the superiority of RPI and its fans that he is incapable of ever saying anything nice about Union or its supporters. In fact every time I read his blog or his Twitter feed, he is constantly making an insulting or hypocritical crack about Union fans. I hope he doesn't think before he posts. I could then understand the hate a little better. But, if he thinks about his vitriol and then posts anyway, he is a sad excuse for a human.

Once again, thanks for coming over and being classy. It means a lot to us.

Keith.

Keith, I think you are taking things way too personal. Rivalries are good but sometimes it goes too far. RPI fans have been harassed at Messa for years. The rent a cops are terrible there, you do not see that at HFH. I think you need to look to the school and it's committment with your rink. Understand you like Messa but for a program that is moving up (frozen four) it might be time to put more an investment in the program. Be well.

That's for people who have lost a loved one. I know that reality and you don't intersect at times but it's just hockey. Lighten up, take a deep breath, count to ten and step away from the keyboard. threats of violence towards me and equating the lost of a loved one to a game is over the top.

Not threatening anyone, what are you 6?
Yes Keith, you should l,look at the schools. Union again just ranked by Forbes as one of the top colleges while RPI came in in at 323, not even top 20 in NY

I wont join in any more arguments here but: while RPI may not be in the top overall colleges, their math/science focus has earned them the ranking of the #4 Engineering school in the world. Can we just agree that both schools are very good options for an education?

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Wasn't there last night but sounds to me like a good old time hockey game involving 2 teams that don't like each other very much. As for the Curadi hit, listening to the
interviews there is no indication from Appert.Bennett or the player involved that it was a dirty hit it just sounds to me like a 5"11 180lb kid cutting across the offensive zone w/his head down that got blown up by a 6"5 260lb defenseman that happens. Union is a excellent hockey team that has had recent success and they really have our number for an RPI fan it is really frustrating but we all need to chill out. I know a lot of the RPI players there are no bad kids on that team. Listening to your players interviewed there are none on yours either. So name calling is really inappropriate. Would anybody really want to have these games to go any different than this. Heck friday night I got so frustrated I left after the 2nd period thats how much you guys are in my head even the U voice of reason Wholin1 was getting all emotional posting here. This is all good stuff lets have fun with it. Good Luck untill we meet again. BTW this is such good stuff it even brought Hokydad out from under the bridge.(relax Mark only kidding)

This...Union's just gotten better than us the past few years. And if it's extremely frustrating for me as a fan to realize that, I can only imagine how much more it gets under the team's skin. I think it would better serve us to accept this and focus on playing our absolute best with level heads. For a while there on Saturday, it seemed as if Union players started most of the after-the-whistle stuff, and RPI did a better job than on Friday of taking it and not retaliating-I really thought we were making progress. Then Curadi took that major and the game kind of imploded-the second period seemed to take forever. I'm glad no one got seriously hurt. Heated, physical games between rivals can be fun, but last night was close to going to far and was getting dangerous.

Thanks Keith for your thoughts...ragging on a rival school and their fans is fun, but it needs to stay light-hearted and impersonal, and RPI/Union fans have been getting downright nasty lately. Here's hoping both teams continue to improve up to the game at the TUC (well, Union maybe not so much:p) and that we can all have fun then watching a clean, passionate game.

Winning does this - with everyone. Union fans heard the woofing for years when they were RPI's little brother, so I think I can safely say that we're all giddy to see Union take it to RPI. I heard some strange comments last night from RPI fans behind me - odd that they were pretty insulting to a team that was in the process of beating RPI for the 7th consecutive time. I know not every fan is like that, though.

As for Union...ADK11 makes a great point in that the boys have played two exceptional games without their best defenseman, even better knowing that they only had 5 d-men for pretty much the entire game on Friday. Gingras especially pleased me with his play both nights.

Ciampini has probably cemented himself in the top 6 because of his presence in front of the net. I think he had 3 goals this weekend because of his deflections past Diebold & Merriam. I'm also liking the play of Nick Cruice on the same line with Jooris & Carr, and Wayne Simpson's play speaks for itself...he's not quite the size & strength of one Jeremy Welsh, but he's getting to the point where opponents are going to have to account for him every night.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Everyone makes fun of hockeydad, but he called it. Curadi and RPI are classless. It startes from the top up. Seth Appert is an embarrassment to RPI, and the sooner he and his band of goons go the better.

I didn't see this. You are an embarssment to yourself for assocating yourself with HD. Apparently you don't even listen to your coach who said it was a clean hit.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Some good posts by Keith and everyone should read them and put things in perspective a bit. These are not pro teams that can just trade players or that you are paying hundreds of dollars to watch. I can recall more than a few games in the past couple decades where Union ended up on the embarrassing end of a rough game and I don't wish that on anyone. Appert doesn't condone this type of behavior and his post game comments confirm that. As for some RPI fans being P.O.ed.. mehh it's part of life as a Union fan. As far as I'm concerned, RPI is done (for now) and time to move on..

And what is getting lost in the noise here is that despite losing possibly their best player, Union played two very good games this weekend and showed definite potential to do big things again. Really impressed with the way Coburn raised his game and took on a real leadership role on the blueline.. he had a fantastic weekend. Also big kudos to Stuart and Gostisbehere, who both showed incredible toughness. In the long run this could help by giving Vasaturo, Boyle & Gingras more prime icetime which could pay dividends when (hopefully) MBodes returns. Also looks like Ciampini and Cruice may have found spots in the top 6 and are building chemistry. On the down side, the D just doesn't seem quite as tight as last year and 3rd & 4th lines need to show a little more identity, but is plenty of time to work those things out. Harvard & Dartmouth roadies next weekend loom as big tests and I'll be interested to see how the boys respond.

We can say things like this, but they don't hold any water. He sent Curadi down into our celebration huddle after our final playoff win against them last year, even though some of you naively refuse to believe he would do that. It was clear as day, and Fridgen even scolded him on the broadcast for doing it. Then Lee gets thrown out for a 2nd game for his grade-A goon play. I bet he's still in the lineup on friday, with a big old C on his chest. That comes from the top. They are one of the most undisciplined teams I have ever seen, and you can't not say that doesn't fall on coaching. If you're not punishing it, you're rewarding it. I was afraid to play the third period with that team, and I'm not happy we have to play them again this season.

BTW -Here is the quote that HD put in my rep. I copied and pasted. Enjoy your new buddy DFan

"You have to edit your posts and re read them? What a piece of sh** clown. About ten have emailed over your personal info, about you and your family. Bombs away buddy, heads up"

This is your guy. Threatening my family.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I do not believe that any Union fan would threaten my family or me and I take the rivalry as a fun thing but when a person goes on my rep and threatens my family things have gone over the line. I will take a formal apology from HD but if not I will be reporting this to the administrator. All my best to Union the rest of the season. This is over the line. If I don't recieve an apology I will ask for a lifetime ban on HokyDad. I'm serious.

With all due respect, you should step back and take a serous look at the self-righteousness and arrogance of your post. It is condescending in both tone and content. Are you trying to tell me that Union fans aren't harassed at HFH??? I saw on Twitter Friday night a few instances of RPI fans making specific references to Union fans at HFH and how they were getting messed with. I've been to HFH many times and been harassed. Furthermore, security at HFH is no better and they err on the side of the home fans when conflict erupts. Sound familiar? Maybe if you came to Messa with less of a chip on your shoulder, you would have a better time.

As for the rink, there are plenty of programs out there that have small rinks that are either elite teams or on the rise. I agree that about 10 years ago, Messa had very few amenities for the players and it was an issue for recruiting. Then the Garnet Blades stepped in and helped the school upgrade the locker rooms and other behind the scenes areas. While Messa may not be a VIP experience for the fans, why should it? It's about the players and I don't hear many of the boys complaining about having to play at Messa. In fact, most of them were sold on Union after visiting Messa and seeing a home game. They love playing here because they have first class amenities hidden from view and they have a tight, super loud barn to play in front of super loyal and crazy fans. Besides, the logistics of building a new rink are substantial as well as the funding. Union won't build anything without 100% of the funds already in the bank. That's why the AD and the school went the route of upgrading Messa for the player's sake and it obviously has helped improve recruiting. I SEE the commitment Union has made to Messa and I'm proud of it and so are many others. Not everyone wants to play their homes games in the Armory.

When RPI has lost another, say, 10 games in a row to Union, then, I might be willing to rethink how I feel about harassment from RPI trolls. If you don't want things to get personal, don't come over to our thread and get personal. I have made it clear that I welcome good hockey discussion and casual ribbing from rivals. I have also welcomed RPI fans that have come over here with respect and class. I would love to see more of that between us. I've been a loyal fan of Union Hockey for 25 years. I don't appreciate being told how to think or feel about it. Just show some respect when you come over here and you will get it back in spades from the Union fans that mean well.

Moving on to a tough weekend with Harvard and Dartmouth.

Keith.

Talking about writing stuff personal about people. Same garbage you keep writing. No one is threatening anyone. Get a grip

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Keith, you know it a former DOT salt shed, right?

You do realize how much you're embarrassing yourself and your institution when you post nonsense like this, don't you?

When I went to Union, it was called Achilles Rink. It was named after the man who helped fund the original project. It houses locker rooms for both hockey teams and the football team as well as the main training room. It used to have ice sheets for curling in the basement before it was renovated. If the weather is bad for graduation, you graduate in the rink.

Some folks like watching hockey in a tight, barn like Messa. Some folks like watching hockey in a cavernous hall that could have easily held the circus the night before. In fact, HFH sometimes feels like a three ring circus. And the clowns wear striped shirts and use whistles. ;)

To each their own....

Keith.

This is not an apology. Your words that you used to me in rep speak volumes about you. I repeat if you do not retract your statements, I will ask the administrator to ban you for life. Cease and desist the threats to me and my family. BTW-I have a son with special needs. Aspy is short for Aspergers, a form of autism. Does that make you feel big to threaten a little boy with autism.

You might want to practice what you preach by not defending a man who threatened a little boy with autism. Civility, right!!!
