Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I was at the game on Friday night, but not Saturday. I'm an RPI fan, and have been going to games since the early '70s, and now have a son there as a sophomore...all I have to say is that you guys deserve the ranking you have. I love the way you play. Its relentless, and its fun to watch (although not against us...again). I'll probably be disowned by half the RPI community for having written the above, but honestly think that we have players to be able to play exactly like your team does....now we just need to do it. Congratulations and good luck...at least until we meet at the TUC !

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Has nothing to do with being too tall, he ran Gostisbehere with nothing but malice. The guy has a history of doing boneheaded stuff (end of last year's playoff series) but he's a hero to your fanbase because he's huge and his mom posts here. He's nothing special as a player, doesn't play big unless he's trying to injure (that's what that hit was, don't let coachspeak from RB fool you) and wouldn't ever crack the lineup for at least half the teams in the ECAC.

Hokeydope, quit hacking Dutchfan's screen name. Either that, or you drank his kool-aid.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Not threatening anyone, what are you 6?
Yes Keith, you should l,look at the schools. Union again just ranked by Forbes as one of the top colleges while RPI came in in at 323, not even top 20 in NY

Cool, one source ranked Union as a top college, what was the ranking for and what was the actual rank? By the way, RPI has been consistently in the top 50 of American schools OVERALL by several sources, also been called the #4 engineering school in the world. Not even top 20 in NY? You have to be joking.

Oh wait, it's Hokydad completely skewing and cherrypicking information while looking through garnet-colored glasses again. Comparing RPI and Union in terms of academics is comparing apples and oranges nowadays, since Union is in effect no longer an engineering or hard science school. They're both excellent schools, and for different reasons. Let's keep the topic on hockey.

As for that, as a disgusted and frustrated RPI fan, I think both teams were being massively childish and got away with a lot of dirty play, and as usual the reffing was essentially non-existent/completely inconsistent. Congrats to Union, they deserved the series.

Now there's an incongruous statement if I ever did read one!!:)

I guess my point is while there was dirty and crappy play on both sides of the equation and the reffing was as bad as the NFL replacement refs were in their sport, Union still outworked RPI in the grand sum of it all, and hence deserved the series.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I didnt bring that up. Just responded to it. RPI is a very good school. Call forbes and all the other rating services if you want to have them change their lists.

Should stick simply to hockey, agreed. One program is on a long term rise, one keeps going lower.

It is not listed top 20 by Forbes in 2012 for NY. It is not consistantly top 50 unless you go regional or specific type. It is not a top 50 college.

Dumb conversation as any kid should be so lucky to go there.

Because Forbes is clearly the only, and most reputable, source for such information.

Seriously, take a few minutes to Google next time.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

awesome!! Ranked 41st out of "national universities" which made it about 200th overall

Not interested in what it was ranked in 2008 or 2009.

It is not top 20 according to Forbes in NY as of today. I am sure Christy Brinkley was the top model in 1987.....

Still a great school and waste of time conversation, that I did not bring up. Simply responded to.

Only rankings that matter are as follows...

http://www.uscho.com/rankings/d-i-mens-poll/

Where Union again is top 10 and trending/rising and RPI is not top 40 and dropping again.

WOW.

What has happened to this thread? We used to talk hockey here every now and then.

I was planning to make the trip up to the CD for the two Union/RPI games but Hurricane Sandy changed those plans. Sounds like I missed an incredible weekend of hockey.

I'd still take Christie Brinkley. :)

BTW, you can't spell Forbes without BS. :p

Semi-seriously, who keeps giving us that no. 1 vote? Aspy, you needn't bother responding, we know your theory. :D

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

The Curadi hit wasn't clean. I don't care what a coach says to reporters after a game. Talk is cheap. The truth of the matter is a few minutes before the hit, Gostisbehere was skating circles around the RPI defense like they were a bunch of old ladies on skates. Clearly the only way for them to stop him was to take him out. Luckily he wasn't gone for long and managed 3 points on the major.

If he managed that on the Curadi major, it obviously wasn't that bad. Quit stooping to the level of Cornell.

Blood on the ice in a league that uses full face masks. There's no way that can't be dirty.

I understand that the cage was actually bent and had to be replaced. Seriously. That doesn't necessarily mean anything other than a lot of force was applied. The cut was actually caused by the facemask digging into his nose.
