Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

I am cheering for Union but this is why BC should be considered the favorite

Boston College may have lost its first Hockey East playoff game in four years this past weekend, but the Eagles still have an ace up their sleeve as they get their head coach back just in time for the opening round of NCAA tournament play on Saturday

I actually agree with the sentiment of certain widely reviled poster -- Union needs to come out and pressure BC on the forecheck and punch 'em in the mouth from the get go. Hit everything but the mascot...hammer their forwards in the neutral zone...no free skating....force turnovers....cause BC to take penalties. All things that Union is good at. This has all the makings of a great one ---- one that Union can win. Good luck fellas.

spot on - if Union plays Union hockey, this is a very winable game. Every time I watch the Dutch, they are on you from the start and smouther you. they score first and then never let up and suffocate you....and they do it with speed and intensity and effort. It is going to be a great game. Wishing you all the best. Just play your game.

Union and BC have never met, but they aren't total strangers: http://bit.ly/YRlvzQ

Even though I'm probably not going to be able to watch the game, the anticipation of the final result is killing me.... I'm cautiously optimistic and think Union will win a close one, maybe a 3-2 or a 4-3 score. How is everyone else feeling? I think BC would actually be the tougher of the two potential games this weekend.

On our way to Pittsburg via Providence, Go U !

My biggest concern is what will be between the ears of U's players tonight. This isn't just playing another NCAA game against a really good team, this is B-Freaking-C.. defending champ, 3 NCs in the last 5 years, tons of recent alumni in the NHL, etc. I know the players have a lot of experience with these type of games from the last couple seasons, but I think this game has had a bigger buildup similar to the last year's F4 where U looked really tight for the first 30 minutes of the game. If that happens tonight, will probably be lights out on the season. BUT if they play hard & confident and get more good goaltending from Troy, then I think we'll see a good outcome.. BTW it still amazes me how far the program has come in the last 4-5 seasons, where a matchup with a BC is seen as a great opportunity to make some noise and not just an "uh-oh I hope we don't get TOO blown out" game.

As for any POSSIBLE next game, I would definitely not say it will be easier. Playing the late game is not a good setup for having to play another top notch opponent. I think it was a partial issue with UML last year as they seemed to lose their legs in the 2nd & 3rd periods.

All I can really say though is Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So proud to see what we started since being part of Union's first division 1 recruiting class and fighting through the first few tough years. We clinched our first ECAC playoff spot beating brown 3-2 with 52 saves and my partner Luigi locking us in with a 3-3 tie at Harvard the next night. Unfortunately our coach was terrible (delventhal). Was thrilled for the Union program after they fired his *** following my senior year. The program started a run of great coaches and built the great program we have today.

You definitely should be proud. I remember that '93-'94 team and the run of great goaltending you had to make the playoffs for the first time that year, and with something like 15 freshmen no less! The future looked bright and it was a great memory that kept me hooked on the idea that Union could really do it at the D1 level.. though I didn't think it would take THAT long.

With the lack of scholarships and high academic standards I figured Union was looking at at least 10 yrs to build a highly competitive program. Up until the last few years when I said Union up in Canada people would be like 'who?' Now many have actually heard of Union.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

I'm not too worried about what will be between their ears tonight. From what I gathered during the week, BC's storied past isn't something even on their minds. Gostisbehere may have said it best on Wednesday - "they tie their skates just like we tie ours. It's that motto." Rick Bennett shrugged it of as well when he said "we're not going there to look at Jerry York's rings." A lot of these guys now have two or three years worth of experience on the big stage and I don't think that will be an issue. This group seems calm, cool, and collected right now.

It's not going to be easy, but they have a good chance if they keep playing like they have over the past six.

Union-BC winner will get Quinnipiac tomorrow at 6:30 pm. QU rallied in the third to survive Canisius, 4-3.

Also, Yale advanced to the Frozen Four with 4-1 win over North Dakota.

Go get 'em tonight fellas! You got the rest of the ECAC behind you for sure, and I would imagine most other fan bases. Play your game and win the battles.

Do you guys not have a band, or did they just not make the trips to AC and Providence? Just curious.
