Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

I answered my own question about the VanDyke. They're having a band there tonight, so I doubt watching the game would be much of an option. We'll definitely be in Rotterdam at the viewing party.

You guys were in AC last year. What's the parking situation like at Boardwalk Hall? Is it better to just walk from the hotel? I'm staying at the Super 8 which isn't in the immediate area but probably wouldn't be too bad of a walk.

Get a taxi if you can afford it. The surrounding area is pretty sketchy at best.

There is no parking at the Boardwalk Hall but right next door is the "Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino" and there is vale parking there and also a big (huge) multistory garage right across the street on the other side of Pacific Avenue and S. Mississippi Avenue. You will have no problem parking in this garage and it has a walkway through the Trump Plaza Hotel to the Boardwalk Hall so you will not have to hit the street at all. Hope this helps. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Boar...alk,+Atlantic+City,+New+Jersey+08401&t=m&z=17

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

I have to believe that was Unions most complete game of the season in all facets except perhaps PP. Troy was very sharp the passing good and sufficient physicality, not to mention 5 even strength goals.

The goal in the last minute extended the consecutive periods scoring streak to 16. With the results from the other sites it looks like we will need to win tomorrow to make NCAAs. If we can come close to tonight's performance then I like our chances.

Props to the U faithful who were by far and away the largest contingent here tonight, to the rest who can make it, come on down!

Since loss to Cornell on January 18 2-3

UNION Last eleven home games (all conf numbers)
(Atlantic City is considered a home game for the Dutchman)

Record 10-0-1
Scored 3.64 vs. 3.12 av season
Gave up 1.09 vs. 2.20 av season
Three (3) shutouts

Next (Last) Home game - Atlantic City (Brown Bears)

Union Record Neutral Site 2013 2-0
Union Record Atlantic City 2012-2013 3-0

Last Home Game - Against a very tough Brown Team tomorrow. Brown is the toughest team Union will face. They are relentless. They have an outstanding goalie, ECAC rookie of the year. In the last win in Schenectady they played us tough for 60 minutes and never quit and just kept coming at us. I am praying to the hockey gods tonight. We will need it tomorrow. We need another selfless team effort. We need to taste another ECAC Championship. Three periods of extremely intense hockey is standing between us and another Championship.

If we are going to win tomorrow we will also have to take to heart the words of General George Patton:

General Patton's "Blood and Guts" Speech the Troops (Warning Graphic Language)
Excerpts from the Speech Given somewhere in England on June 5th, 1944
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/866647/posts

"Be seated."
.......................
"My men don't surrender, and I don't want to hear of any soldier under my command being captured unless he has been hit. Even if you are hit, you can still fight back. That's not just bull**** either. The kind of man that I want in my command is just like the lieutenant in Libya, who, with a Nazi Kraut poking a Luger against his chest, jerked off his helmet, swept the gun aside with one hand, and busted the hell out of the Kraut with his helmet. Then he jumped on the gun and went out and killed another German before they knew what the hell was coming off. And, all of that time, this man had a bullet through a lung."
............
"We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have; or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-*****es, we're going to rip out their living God****ed guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun **********s by the bushel-****ing-basket!"

"War is a bloody, killing business. You've got to spill their blood, or they will spill yours! Rip them up the belly. Shoot them in the guts. When shells are hitting all around you and you wipe the dirt off your face and realize that instead of dirt it's the blood and guts of what once was your best friend beside you, you'll know what to do!"

"I don't want to get any messages saying, 'I am holding my position." We are not holding a God****ed thing. Let the Germans do that! We are advancing constantly and we are not interested in holding onto anything, except the enemy's balls! We are going to twist his balls and kick the living **** out of him all of the time. Our basic plan of operation is to advance and to keep on advancing regardless of whether we have to go over, under, or through the enemy. We are going to go through him like crap through a goose; like **** through a tin horn!"

Union College is not in Kentucky (or in New Jersey).

If it's Brown flush it down!!!

Go Union!

Agreed...a complete, all-around team effort by a group of guys playing with a lot of confidence. But they now have to play against a team with the same amount of confidence and a stellar defense.

Looking through the PWR predictor, it does look like Union will need to win to clinch a spot in the NCAAs. With Niagara, St. Cloud, Minnesota, & BC all losing last night, there are good chances that a team outside the top 16 will grab an autobid and "steal" a spot in the tourney. So...just win and remove all doubt.

Most complete effort of the season. Union is peaking at the right time. Brown's been tough to beat, first goal is critical.

60 minutes to glory, let's go U!

Enjoy your loss tonight because it's happening. Good luck even scoring a goal.

Simpson's goal was fantastic and reminded me (a bit) of Welsh. Like Ghost's goal against Dartmouth, it was a shot that not many goalies at any level would stop. Have to think that's the kind of play the coaches have been trying to get Wayne to make all season; i.e. don't think too much and let the shot rip when you have the chance. It set the tone for the entire game. Also big kudo's to Grosenick for an excellent game and making the big saves when needed. Is strange how Yale's goalies often have stinkers in the biggest games of the year. If Malcomb had made a couple relatively above average saves on a couple of U's goals, the complexion of the game might have been different.

Agree with everyone that Brown will be a VERY tough game. U had the decided edge in the crease against Dartmouth & Yale, but Borelli has been nothing short of fantastic. Brown also won't wait until the 2nd period (like Yale) to throw their first body check :p.. will be a completely different game and I expect will be low scoring. The boys will need their A game.

The Atlantic champion NCAA auto-berth is going to be a team outside the top 16 because Niagara lost and Niagara is pretty well ensconced in the tourney. There is also a very real possibility that the WCHA (Wisconsin/CC) will have the same situation, and could happen in HE (BU) and CCHA (Michigan/Ohio State).. bottom line is U needs to win tonight or their season is probably over.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Win and we're in. Lose and the season is over. To say that Union and Brown have a lot riding on this would be an understatement. Should be an incredible game.

LET'S GO U!!

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 Part II - See U in AC, But Ultimate Goal Still Lies Ahead

Last year we were down 1-0 in the third against a very hot Harvard Team, loaded with talent and size and owner of the then hottest goalie (Raphael Girard) in the ECAC. Harvard had destroyed Cornell the day before.

The Schenectady icers outlasted Harvard and its red-hot goalie Raphael Girard 3-1, to win their first ever ECAC tournament title in their 21st year as a Division I program.

In our last 5 games we are scoring on average 4.6 and giving up .8 with two shutouts.

Good luck today Dutchmen !!!!

It worked for us yesterday! :)

I know haha. In a way, I'm glad this is the final. Can't remember the last time an ECAC Championship game was win or go home for both teams involved, if ever.

If you were to tell me in, say, 1999, that Brown and Union would one day play each other in the ECAC Championship, I'd have laughed hysterically. That speaks volumes about the advancements of each program- especially Union, becoming a national power. We're hoping Brown is on the road to that right now.
