Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Keith should have a few "butterflies" tonight. Looking forward to a fun night and an end to the hockey drought.

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Keith looked good tonight......didnt face a shot for his first 8 min. and shut Rangers out during his period and half of game. Great crowd but the TU arena blew it.....long lines at ticket windows and even longer lines at concessions...most with only one person working......they want hockey but not going to get people there like that......

If you don't expect many people, you don't staff for it. They were thinking that because it's preseason, no one will show up. Someone at the TU didn't get the memo about a local (in terms of college) goalie playing...

I agree!!!! The TU was a joke....no two ways about it. They finally get a great crowd for an NHL event with some local flavor, and Belber and crew understaff the event. Not only that, but fog started to appear on the ice in the second period which is completely inexcusable.....the ice was brutal with the puck bouncing all over the place. It appears to me that the TU Center is NOT capable of holding a major event. Thank God the ECAC left!!!!

No, the local goalie had nothing to do with it. It was 80% Ranger fans and they were expecting 8-9k for months now and got 9400. Once again the T/U center blew it and why should we be shocked? Haven't been prepared for big events going on 10 years now. Poorly staffed, horrible ice conditions and forcing people in the nose bleed seats in the upper corners intead of taking the black curtains down!

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

I agree that the game itself was a great event and Keith looked ok after a few early adventures handling the puck. As far as the play itself, two good fights and it was easy to tell that the players were into the game. The KK connection added to the buzz (and by the way it was cool to see him wearing his Union goalie mask out there on the ice and on the MSG network.). The advance sale was over 7,000 so they knew there would be a decent crowd. People in my group got up 3 or 4 times to go to the concession stand and came back empty handed due to the lines. I'm not sure how the revenue from concessions is split, but I have to believe there was a lost opportunity. It also added to the smAlbany aura of big time sports in this locale.

Don't let Red Cloud hear you say anything disparaging about Albany or the TU Center - you'll get lectured for sure!

Sad but true. We've all witnessed far too many games when periods start with acres of standing water on the ice. They just don't take the quality of the ice surface seriously....never have. You can believe that if Siena's floor had rough seams or dead spots, it'd get fixed.... in a hurry. Part of the blame falls squarely with the Devils. They are the tenant paying for the ice. They should demand quality ice, especially when their high $$$ talent is skating on it.

Oh, look, someone who didn't (and still doesn't) get it!

Please, keep your head planted firmly in your fourth point of contact. You look funny that way.

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Keith looked great in his limited time last night. I also loved seeing the Union mask on MSG.

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

That's facepalm material isn't it? BTW, had no idea what fourth point of contact was. Had to look it up.

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Union has a new recruit according to Chris Heisenberg's website. I'll let you folks research it further.
