Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

2012-2013 recruit Matt Wilkins won the Alberta Junior Hockey League scoring title with a whopping 99 points (34 G 65 A) in 60 games.

Forward Matt Wilkins of the Brooks Bandits has captured the Ernie Love Trophy as the Top Scorer in the AJHL with 99 points. Wilkins averaged 1.7 points per game and led the League with 15 powerplay goals.

Wilkins has tied the franchise record for Most Points in a Single Season with 99 points, shared with alumnus Jeff Marler in the 2000-2001 season. He also set a new team record for Most Assists in a Single Season with 65. Wilkins is the first Bandit player to win the Ernie Love Trophy in franchise history.

Wilkins recorded a point in all but eight regular season games in 2011-2012 and finished the season on an 18 game point streak. Wilkins was the Pro Hockey Life Star of the Game 16 times in the regular season and the winner of the Pro Hockey Life Cup. Matt Wilkins was also a finalist for the 2012 League MVP Award. Wilkins was twice named the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week.

Matt led the Bandits in scoring last season with 30 goals and 47 assists which put him second in AJHL scoring. Wilkins, from Kimberley, British Columbia, is in his second and final season with the Bandits and is committed to Union College for the 2012-2013 season

The Brooks Bandits are the 2011-2012 AJHL Regular Season Champions and earned a bye in Round One of the 2012 AJHL playoffs. League President Craig T. Cripps will award the Ernie Love Trophy to Wilkins at the start of Round Two on March 6th in Brooks.

In comparison, last year's league leading scorer had 78 points.

Good to see that they still give a quality technical education in Schenectady. :p

Just kidding. :)

Edit: Yes, I know that it should be 34 goals.

A bit off topic, but I noticed Messa Rink is hosting the Section 2 Division I high school hockey championship game tonight. Game starts at 7.

Hey uniontrack, I know you said you wanted more action in the Union thread... is this trolling what you had in mind? ;)

Secured tickets to Friday's game in Ithaca, but they are in Section J. Will be wearing a Union sweatshirt and bringing the flag. Bringing the wife, older son and younger son. Anyone else going?

LOL, I stand surrounded by the troops of Irony......

He's harmless...just trying to stir the pot.....MY mom always accused me of "poking the bear with a stick" when it came to verbal sparring, so I guess this is my just desserts.....

I just want to watch a reasonable game online both nights and, based on their level of play and focus, I feel like Union will end up where they deserve...(now that's a conversation starter for our cross-town friends if I ever heard one...;))

Its good to hear that Troy is close to 100% since I feel that this battle with Cornell can live up to the hype with both teams playing their best players.....

Settling down tomorrow afternoon (PST) for the Battle Royale (with Cheese....;)).......

Off-topic concept, apologies in advance....

RB, I remember you mentioning a while back about Union dropping the CE program.....

I meant to comment at the time that I thought it was a mistake....

I can't imagine how many Union alumni were let loose in the Northeast building structures, roads, bridges and other infrastructure after their quality time spent studying CE at Union.....

I understand the need to stay current with areas like nano and bio-medical, however I always felt that Union was really good at providing a solid base education in a broad discipline and then one could specialize later in grad school.....

One of my classmates at Union got his CS bachelors degree first and then went over to you guys in Troy to do all of his CS graduate work.....

However, perhaps as a direct result of the quality of my Sports MBA from UNLV, maybe I am clueless here.....

Thoughts?

Keith.

The only weights I lift tend to be 12-16 ounce in nature, typically from Canada...

just desserts
Wrong word - you were looking for "deserts" (same root as the word "deserve" - just deserts are what you rightly deserve). Sorry - just continuing my one-man campaign against this particular one...

Carry on.

Thanks. I think that I have gotten that wrong my entire life. Should "deserts" be pronounced as the place full of sand also?

Has there been any official word on Grosenick's status? I'm sure we'll find out later this afternoon, but I'm anxious. :)
