Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Condon was definitely very good, but U's offensive crispness was also not quite there last night, especially on the PP. A lot of missed shots and tentative decision making re: shooting or passing.. some of which probably had to do with Condon getting in their heads. Still, it was a game that I really never felt that worried about because U simply did not allow Princeton to posses the puck for any length of time. A very solid 60 minute effort and a great way to break Grosenick back into the lineup. Worst that can happen now is a top 3 finish and is possible will just be U & Cornell fighting for the top 2 spots depending on what happens tonight. Goodwin will definitely be slapped with something, though there seemed to be some speculation that Ciampini was doing some woofing that provoked it.. not saying that he deserved what he got, but hopefully the boys know to take the high road in those situations in the future.

After the 5-2 win over Quinny tonight, we are currently sitting at #7 in the PWR but that can change by the end of the night.

A solid win but the story is Grosenick, who appeared to re-injure his ankle during a 2nd period crease collision. Hopefully he's able to bounce back, but he was visibly hopping going back into the locker room. I didn't see him make it back to the bench. Hopefully we learn more soon enough.

By the way, I've created a YouTube playlist of various Messa Rink songs. If you go to many of the games, you'll probably recognize them: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDFFE3FEF269A6675

Love it, thanks :)

Games like tonight prove just how good Union really is. The boys were able to gut out a dirty win and didn't collapse after Grosenick went down.

It looked like Union got lucky when the second Q-pac goal got waved off due to the quick whistle. That could've easily changed the game in Quinnipiac's favor if the goal had stood.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Whew. Cornell did *just* enough in the North Country to set up the showdown for first next Friday. A Cornell win gives them the H2H tiebreaker, while a Union win or tie clinches the spittoon. Of course, if Cornell wins, they still have to do as well or better than Union on Saturday to stay on top - it would be a real shame to beat Union and then let it slip away with a poor performance the next night...

Anyone think Schafer might pull the goalie late if the score is tied? I kind of doubt it (doesn't seem like Schafer's style), but Cornell has already clinched 2nd, so there's really no reason not to.

Grosenick will be just fine, I know him personally and hes gonna be alright. Just tweaked it a bit and was a little more of a precautionary thing there. I think he should be okay for next weekend.

Good point.

IF you have 2nd all sewn up, there is nothing to lose at that point....

That is even MORE reason for me to stock up on Zantac and Rolaids for Friday's contest. :D

I know its not the end of the year if we don't repeat as regular season champs, but it would be nice and it would help validate the changing of the players and coaching guard at Union in coaching...

Although, without the pressure of maintaining the lead dog status, it might be easier to focus on playing better hockey to try to win the ECAC and ultimately win a few if not all of the NCAA games....

Union stays at 2 in the INCH rankings and stays at 8 in the USCHO and USA Today rankings.

Pairwise = 7th.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

According to Schott, RPI's tentative schedule has been released. So after fooling around with the dates, Union's '12-13 schedule (well part of it) could look something like this:

There's probably several OOC games not listed here that haven't been reported yet. Hopefully at least a couple of those are at home. Only 13 home games listed below.

Schott previously reported that Union could play in the Catamount Cup at Vermont, which typically occurs around New Years. A possible weekend for this could be 12/28-12/29.

11/2 – at RPI
11/3 – vs RPI
11/9 – at Harvard
11/10 – at Dartmouth
11/23 – vs Penn State (Schott reported on this possible two game series in December)
11/24 – vs Penn State
11/30 – vs Quinnipiac
12/1 - vs Princeton
12/7 – at Brown
12/8 – at Yale
1/11 – at Princeton
1/12 – at Quinnipiac
1/18 – vs Cornell
1/19 – vs Colgate
1/26 – vs RPI (non-league, possibly at Times Union Center as per Schott)
2/1 – vs Dartmouth
2/2 – vs Harvard
2/8 – at Clarkson
2/9 – at St. Lawrence
2/15 – vs Yale
2/16 – vs Brown
2/22 – at Colgate
2/23 – at Cornell
3/1 – vs St. Lawrence
3/2 – vs Clarkson

No. Cornell still has a slim shot at an at-large bid. No point in turning a tie into a loss.
