Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Didn't get to the game tonight but it seems like this one played to script... also good to see Union score 2x in the third, maybe a sign they played a full game tonight?

Union (21 points) now has sole possession of first after Colgate scored 4x in the 3rd to beat Cornell 5-3. Cornell's alone in 2nd at 19 pts and Colgate's alone in third at 17 pts.

Colgate comes to Messa on Fri and Cornell next Sat. Couldn't ask for a more exciting ECAC weekend. Can't wait.

This was the best 60-minute game I've seen them play all season. Looks like they clearly got the message...let's hope they don't need to be reminded.

Next weekend should be pretty intense.

By the way, what happened to the student section (Sec Q)? They seemed to have disappeared recently. Oh, UnionHockeyManiac, where have you gone?

I would definitely put this game up there with Dartmouth as the best 60 minute effort I've seen. Union completely took SLU out of their speed game comfort zone and the D was stifling. O was there too moving the puck quickly and effectively. Props to Matt Hatch with two carbon copy goals to the upper ninety goalie's left shoulder. The first was a pure speed effort. Troy made a spectacular third period stop to preserve the shutout going either glove or leg pad to his left.

Joel Beal after the game mentioned getting fresh legs into the game with Ciampini and Novak which is a tactic the coaching staff will likely go to for the rest of the season on the Saturday night games. Maybe that's something they picked up from the Brown game where things went downhill quickly after the early 2-0 lead.

Colgate will come in off a two game sweep of Cornell with memories of last year's playoff elimination of the Dutch. Let's hope U keeps that in mind too. Cornell will be smarting and looking to regain the league lead....ain't gonna happen. ;) Wow this is getting interesting.

A good night for Union goalies past and present.. not only did Grosenick get a well deserved shutout, but Keith Kinkaid blanked Adirondack at the TU Center in front of the largest crowd there in about 10 years.

Very nice to see the boys put the hammer down in the 3rd period, which is good momentum going into the 2 toughest league games of the year so far. I'm very nervous about the Gate game next Friday.. their offense seems very explosive this year and I'm still a little shell shocked from last year's playoffs. And of course Cornell is Cornell but.. U is where they want to be and controls their destiny.. Looking forward to another exciting weekend!!

Totally enjoyable weekend. Grosenick is awesome.

I was also wondering what happened to Q Section. They are certainly missed.

Graduated in 2010. :(
Full Time Job. :(
Rarely make it up to Schenectady. :(

I'm going to try to make it up there for either Cornell this Saturday but if not then, I'll be back for playoffs. I am still recovering from knee surgery (to repair a torn ACL and meniscus) so I don't know if I'll be able to stand for the entire game in the top row like I used to. Last year, I rented a house in AC for the ECAC tournament and then Union didn't end up making it so I have to decide if I want to do that again and risk the jinx.

I'm disappointed that the student section (now named Messa Maniacs?) is not what it used to be. I'm going to have to talk to a few of the current students who I still know on campus to see if there's something we can do about that. During my early years at Union, I always said that if the team became really good, the students would show up in droves. Now the team is one of the best in the nation and the FREE student section isn't at capacity every game? Very disappointing. These were the good old days:

Because we beat Clarkson and SLU? Come on now.

Who moved down? You have to think UMD shot WAY down after getting 1 point vs. Tech, also BU taking a loss in there. Also, with Cornell moving down so far, there's a spot right there.

#11 in USCHO and USA Today polls, FWIW.

*12 in the USA Today Poll, but IWN.

It's all about the PWR now and I'm no expert, but I'm guessing these two games this weekend against two TUCs is very important.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Do they sell out at Union or are there always standing room tickets ? I may go to the Colgate game but have no tickets currently. Thanks. Also, check out Austin Smith, he's really something.(maybe Hobey)

Union doesn't sell out every game. They've averaged about 1900 a game this year (2200 seats + standing room). Some games sell out, but usually there wouldn't be problems getting seats on gamenight. As of now, it looks like there's still a good chunk of seats left for Friday night vs Colgate. Or you can get them online (until 11:59 PM Thursday, when they cut off online sales for the weekend) and they'll be held at will call.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Boy, if Union wins the ECAC, they will definitely deserve it. Cornell and Colgate 4 times in the last 7 games.

Good luck team!
