Maybe the ghost of Ned Harkness(no lights, turn up heat etc) lol

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Grosenick has been the team's MVP, and statistically, better than the guy he replaced. Who knew?

We might have to worry about Grosenick and Welsh leaving early.

I would be surprised if Walsh leaves early though I think there may well be offers coming his way to do so. He is a bright young man and as a rising senior, I think he will want that diploma, just my guess. So far as Troy is concerned, I have no idea. I think Colin Stevens is going to be a real good one too, but hopefully we'll have both around for a good long while.

I certainly hope you are right about Welsh staying, but he does have an NHL ready body and a big time shot that many in the show don't have. I'd agree that he will probably get some feelers in the off season. My feeling is that the coaches have accounted for this in next year's recruiting class with a couple power forward types (Andrew Johnston & Nick Cruice), just in case he does leave early.

As for Grosenick, my fear is that if he garners 1st Team ECAC and All-American like Kinkaid did, he will likely get an offer or two and it will be hard to say "no" not knowing if his stock will ever be that high. Personally I think he would benefit from another year in NCAA - his positioning still needs a little work - but obviously I'm biased..

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

As valuable as Grosenick has been, I'd worry more if Welsh left early. I think Stevens could be a quality starting goalie in the not too distant future. Outside of the disaster in Denver, what Stevens has shown as 18 year old freshman has been impressive. But replacing Welsh's goal scoring ability and size strikes me as something that wouldn't be as easy to replace. His 18 goals leads the team and only two others have more than 7 (Carr 12, Simpson 13). Welsh's 6'3/210 frame certainly lends itself to the higher levels and I haven't seen any other ECAC player with as good of a shot as Welsh this year. The thing is just a rocket - better than I remember it being last year. There were a few times this year when it seemed like the opposing goalie didn't have a chance in hell against it. In a dream world, neither leave, but we shouldn't be surprised if one/both does.

Heisenberg shows Cruice as a 2013 guy.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

The speculation about Welsh and Grosenick is something I'm not going to worry about very much. I spent a lot of time last spring agonizing over what Nate and Keith were likely to do and it really diminished some of my enjoyment of that great season, so I won't make that mistake again. Besides which, we've done ok with both of their replacements this season. I'll take it as further evidence of the right things the Union program has done over the recent past and take heart from the hope that we can continue to reload when necessary.

Oh boy... something tells me this isn't a good sign. But lets hope he's fine come tomorrow night. I like Stevens, but you don't to use him this weekend against those two teams when he hasn't seen game action in 5 weeks.

I remember that Jooris was "probable" for the Yale-Brown weekend a few weeks ago but didn't play at all.

So far as I know, there is no requirement by the league for programs to report injuries or to grade them, so you're right to imply that these statements need to be taken with a degree of skepticism. I think coaches don't want to tip their hand unnecessarily or give opponents any ideas of how to exploit an injured player in terms of being more specific than "upper body, lower body" injury. Now if they start to take action on these games in Vegas, it could be a different story. ;)

It sounds like you went down 890 and got off on Broadway (as that's the easiest way to get to the college). Exit 26 off the Thruway, and I believe it's Exit 5 off of 890.

Katie O'Byrnes is off of Erie Blvd. Take the 1st Schenectady exit on the Thruway and then its Exit 4-something (can't remember if its A or B).. just follow the signs for Erie Blvd. Katie's is on the right just past where Erie crosses State Street.

Exit 4A is the GE Plant, while 4B is Erie Boulevard (although it's a collector-distributor ramp, so if you pick the wrong one, you'll still be able to get to Erie Blvd). The first Schenectady exit on the thruway is 26.

Lets say the injury could either be something that heals fast or lingers throughout the rest of the season. Lets say him and Gronkowski are in the same boat right about now.

This was not the update I wanted to hear. Hopefully it's the first option.
