Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic City!

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

Just wanted to congratulate Union on a well played game.I dont think either team is happy about the way 1 game this weekend turned out....but this is what we have come to expect from RPI v Union games

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

More bad news tonight. Adam Presizniuk apparently broke his thumb early in the game.

I hate to see this happen to any player, whether your own team, another team, or your most hated rival. Hopefully he heals well, because he has been outstanding this year, at least in the 3 games I've witnessed.

Best of luck to Union in the rest of league play. Let's get ourselves 8 points every weekend and go 1-2 into the playoffs.

hmm well if it's true that the red light can't go on if time has expired then i suppose i feel slightly less devastated about the loss. still need video replay though.

I do agree with you on this one completely that video review should be around. We have it when the game is televised (not sure why they didn't televise any of these, maybe they were covering that other sport). Does your school have a camera crew similar to ours that covers your games? That group should see if they can get a monitor set near the penalty boxes to allow for video review. I think our crew is looking to do the same once our renovations is complete.

I know this same thing happened last year, and there was no red light last year (I guess due to the goal judge being asleep), but this year, and I confirmed it with those sitting next to me, our seats are near the public address announcer's box, the red light did come on, and given how the lockout system works, it can only come on if the clock is running.

Cant agree more. Its 2010. Look at last night. (Just using it as an example, Im sick of talking about it.) The only video available is on a laptop which was being filmed by a hand held camera, or on YouTube by a fan.

This is Division 1 college hockey. Lets get more modern Ok ECAC?

Good Luck the rest of the way Union, and, no offense, Im glad I dont have to see U until, hopefully Atlantic City.

Union doesn't have any tv crew similar to rpitv. i think there's just one guy way up in the rafters that has a crappy little home video recorder.

So is video mandatory next year in the ECAC or not? I thought it was on the way.

I was under the assumption it was mandatory this year. Guess not. Hopefully all the arenas get it soon. Right now I know Clarkson and Cornell have it, RPI has it when TWCS is at HFH, Quinnipiac also has it, and I don't know about the others.

Colgate has instant replay too. You wouldn't expect it given the rink we play in, but it's there.

Amazing...No mention of the conspiracy theory.... you know, how the ECAC has it in for Union, how the refs are out to screw Nate, or even mention that the zebras at this level of play should be perfect and never miss a call. Just a rational discussion on how to move forward from this point given available technology that would augment the current system which is in place. How refreshing that some fans "get it."

The droning drumbeat on the officials is wearisome. Let's face it, these guys have a tough job to do and I'm sure most try their best. For crying out loud, criticism of hockey officials goes all the way to the NHL and look at the technological support they have. I imagine that most league officials are part timers and have real day jobs, and this certainly isn't meant as a criticism. I would guess that most officials are in it for the love of the game and aren't megalomaniacs. No fan or for that matter, coach, out there hasn't felt that their team hasn't been victimized from time to time, but for crying out loud, get over it. I guess it's easier or more amusing in some fashion to adhere to a conspiracy theory or some such nonsense or simply to make excuses in general. In the meantime, available technology and training should be made available whenever possible. All of this comes at a financial cost and it's not clear who can pay for such in these trying economic times.

Without a Peer actually summed this up pretty well. One of the things the site noted was the hostility of the crowd in relation to things that could be called. I remember there was one RPI game where a referee needed a public safety escort because he didn't think he'd get out alive after, ironically, a disallowed goal call that went in (back during the Fridgen era). I'm sure most of us will get over it sooner or later, or in the case of some of RPI's fans, just become apathetic to it.

I wasn't calling out RPI fans, I don't think there's a thread going that does not rail against the refs, this one included. It's just that there isn't much we can do about it so why get bent out of shape?

I agree with you, the point that I'm trying to make is that the crowd can sometimes have the ability to affect the calls that are made. It may be safe to say that your team was on the short end of two such situations (Saturday night, as well as last year during our Thanksgiving tournament). The site I referenced makes note of this, and may be one of the things that is "done about it", unfortunately. The calls should really be made correct using any technological means necessary, but when it comes down to it, there will always be human error (even in video review, reference a Jets game with a phantom OT goal call).

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

My point exactly! It's ridiculous that fans on different sites say the refs are against them. Never do we feel they are "for" us but often we feel slighted. It's a common thread amongst fans in all sports at all levels. The same phenomena happens with national broadcasts when the announcers are not homers. The fan always feels the guy calling the game is biased, when he is actually being honest and not clouded by any team loyalty. It's a foul if the ref calls it, play on if there is no call. The system as it stands is better then no system at all...sure, maybe it can be improved upon, but 'tilll then this is what we have, so you have to roll with the punches.

Its called passion....both schools have some of the best and most loyal fans in college hockey I would be disappointed if they didn't react as they do.I don't think it could get any better than this past weekend 2 very good teams playing 2 different styles that in the end no matter what the score was or what the calls were in my book was a draw...advantage nobody....Plus its FUN who wants to take everything in stride thats boring.....Best of luck the rest of the year.....and a speedy recovery to Adam P

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

I'm still devastated and it's now Monday. Not going to get over this loss but gotta move on somehow. Lots of games to play.

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

We all talk about the refs and training and best technology avaiable. Some of these guys if you go to the ECAC website and look them up are very acchmoplished. They should have no problem working this level of hockey from what there bio's say. Come on Feola worked the god dam olympics for christ sake. There should be no problems in these games for some of these guys. There are some that are very good and do a good job. I feel that sat night was a fair contest, friday on the other hand is a tough pill to swallow. Union fans if there is a way to get a tape of the game on sat should look at those two calls. Both dangerous, both needed to be called, doesnt matter who commited the foul. If it was the other way and RPI took the penalty, it needed to be called. I hope both teams do well and that the NCAA touniment has more than three ECAC teams going. That would be amazing.
