Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic City!

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

The missing Brown game tix will be going out this week to season ticket holders who didn't get them.

I know people generally don't pay attention to the rankings (other than PWR of course), but check this out:

#7 in the INCH Power Rankings
#12 in the USCHO Poll
#12 in the USA Today Poll

I remember being excited as a Freshman and Sophomore in college when Union was in the "others receiving votes" category. Look at us now. :)

Union is #7 in PWR http://www.rpihockey.net/misc.rank1.shtml, not that it is meaningful now.

Until U actually beats a ranked team.. or at least one with a winning record.. I won't pay much attention to polls & such. Hopefully that changes this weekend.

In listening to the radio this past weekend, Matt and Brian were talking about "Blackout" this Friday and everyone should wear black. I haven't heard anything else about it. I'll give up my jersey for the night and wear black if that's the case. Without any other publicity, however, I don't think it'll be very black in Messa Rink. Was it mentioned anyplace else other than the radio?

you just mentioned it....
Who did UHM pass the baton to when he matriculated? Surely there is a new ring leader on campus to stir things up. I would think that with the vibe going on with this team that there would be all sorts of diehards on campus. Can't make it to Messa this week, but I'll be listening with my favorite black....Johnnie Walker.

It is official. Clothing police will probably be enforcing this requirement. ;) There was a banner running on the Athletics website earlier this week.

WOW! what a great, unique idea. I can't believe someone else hasn't thought of that already. Oh wait.....I think I saw mention of it here: http://www.withoutapeer.com/2010/11/uh-blackout.html

Should be a Garnet-Out in my opinion. Guess it just doesn't roll of the tongue like black out does.

Dan Greene of Union Hockey Blog has done a great job keeping all of the students updated about what games and events are coming up. However, it is tough for him because he often has to work during games. I would have hoped that the team being this good would attract student attention and interest but I have heard that has not been the case.

I truly hope that the games this weekend will be over-capacity. I really wish I could make it tomorrow but I already left work early on Friday for one Union hockey game and I don't think I'll be able to get out early again tomorrow. It's really frustrating not being a walk away from the rink. Instead, I'm a 3+ hour train ride away or a drive up I-87 with a ton of traffic.

Hopefully Union can get the sweep this weekend heading into the student break.

I like blackout or get out as a theme. The funeral thing was funny though. It'll be even funnier if we sweep. :)

Wow!! Another classic Union-RPI game.. or at least another one that will be talked about for a while. An incredible play on the first goal and the last 3 to touch the puck were freshmen! No time to savor this though.. tomorrow will be another war.

I'm not sure about "classic" but it was sure representative of what we've come to expect when these two teams knock heads. It's too bad it had to end the way it did because it may cause us to lose sight of what was a hugely competitive and entertaining college hockey game. I can understand the RPI indignation but I'm sure they'll get it behind them, except as extra motivation, by the drop of the puck tonight.

I think these two teams are about as evenly matched as you can get, right down to the goaltenders and there is obviously a deep level of animosity between the two. RPI's D is vastly improved though I think they are still trying to find themselves a bit on offense. Polacek who I live in fear of, did not have one of his better games and still almost made a spectacular play in a semi breakaway play at the right circle. Kennedy is one tough hombre, he had to have blocked 3 or 4 dead on shots in the 4 on 3. Both of the goalies in my view were excellent, though I actually thought Kinkaid had to make more stops of the spectacular variety. Union's PP is moving the puck better than I can remember and they just were given too many opps last night. I thought the young D acquitted itself very well, also.

Union has adapted to the tight checking low scoring league play which they are going to have to continue to do to be successful. I would expect more of the same tonight and Union had best be ready for what I expect will obviously be an angry and motivated RPI team in an extremely hostile environment. I'm guessing the zebes will be wearing out the whistles so special team play will likely be key again. I can't wait. ;)

More bad news tonight. Adam Presizniuk apparently broke his thumb early in the game.
