Union College: 2017-2018

Re: Union College: 2017-2018

We had our chance against Clarkson. First goal is a downer, took us 10 minutes to recover. Clarkson reminded me a bit about our Championship team : able to bend but not break, calm under pressure (offense or defense), always very deliberate in their game. able to put away the majority of their chances.
We looked a bit young and didn't have much luck. We also took too many penalties and weren't able to convert our chances (lack of maturity/vision on the play). I thought we put up a good fight overall.

Let's make this week end a split and I'll be happy.

Re: Union College: 2017-2018

As I suspected, Adams out after Bennett's comment and a -4 last night. Campbell also sitting with Light back in. MacAdam has the full lineups on Twitter.

Re: Union College: 2017-2018

A tough win. Was kind of sad to watch for some periods of time throughout the game. Good thing only the final score matters.
Glad we got 2 points....
Let's just pretend this week end never happened, regroup, and move on.

Sometimes sucks to be a touted freshmen.. -4 gets him the bleachers He took one for the line there
I think it's called coaching motivation - with a body that big and that much talent you must see more effort
night in and night out

He needs to quit thinking and just use his talent and play

It's why the Boxscore has no pictures....
We got to see some very talented and very young players show both their good stuff and some really awful stuff..
For a couple of the Freshmen it looked like the veil fell away and they finally just let it go and play the game..
but in doing so we got to see the warts too (the things they really need to improve upon)
Just can't follow the opponent - you really do need to make contact.. And keep the feet moving
Hopefully the learning process from a game like that will will result in improvements next week..

Re: Union College: 2017-2018

We have 10 more ECAC league contests.
We have currently 16 ECAC points
Using the past 12 seasons as a measuring stick, 28 points has always gotten a team into the top 4 and a first-round bye.

6 more wins will give us 28 points
5 of the contests will match us with teams that are top 4 now (Clarkson, Cornell(2), Colgate(2), Harvard)

Are we hungry enough?

You have already played CCT twice, don't you mean 5 of the contests will match us with teams that are top 4 now (Cornell(2), Colgate(2), Harvard)

Our problem isn't being "hungry enough" - it's the inability to hold onto the fork!!

"...to hold onto the fork" for the full game! You can't count on the goalie to pick up the fork for you every time you have a slow moment (and we don't have a goalie that can anyways).

Yes,

So how far is this Clarkson team going this year? Your clearly the best in the ECAC. Great sophomore line, depth and most importantly hunger. It will be very important to finish in the top 4 nationally (pairwise) because then you will be a #1 seed in one of the eastern regionals and that is huge in the NCAA's. There is not the usual dominent competition from HE this year. That puts you into the FF. Will be interesting.

Dutchman - are you trying to build up their spirit for the crash when they fall at Lake Placid?
are they good -- YES, they are, but when the refs turn on "Playoff Hockey" things always seem to change

I'm not sure any goalie would have fared any better considering:
- We do not clear the porch --ever
- We turnover the puck in our zone leaving multiple 2 on 1s

it's difficult to stop a 2 on 1 when you don't know what your 1 guy is going to do
1 time he lays on the ice and stops the pass, next time he skates to the man leaving the pass open
Goalie has the shooter - the lone d-man MUST stop the pass... sounds easy - but over half way and we still don't have it..
Our goalies are good enough - just don;t need our guys to help the opponent
We also miss #18 ..

Post season for Clarkson has been a series of heartbreaking disappointments amidst unfathomable collapses. See Red Sox pre 2004.

Re: Union College: 2017-2018

Friday's game at Yale will be broadcast on WatchESPN, according to Unionathletics.com. Beats paying for the Ivy League Digital Network.

If Clarkson can get a top 4 seed then the first round would face a 12-16 seed, most likely from HE or even AHC. If Clarkson makes it to the FF, there are some teams I believe it would do very well against such and could win the national championship. Others, no so much.
