Union College: 2016-2017

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

Actually, the guy who was yelling during the national anthem was removed from the game and rightfully so. There is no room for that sort of behavior during the anthems. It is extremely disrespectful and the staff handled the situation correctly and had him removed. In fact, he is a St. Lawrence student who is now banned from coming to Saints hockey games for the way he was acting to the staff when they tried to remove him ... So, once again you've managed to see something and are trying to turn into around to fit the narrative with which you are trying to push. Not everyone is out to get your team, not everyone is out to injury your players and not everyone goes to hockey games to turn around and try and "whine and moan" about everything they see that they don't like. Watch the game, enjoy the game, then go home and live your life. You're constant *****ing about everything is seriously obnoxious.

Actually you're just believing what you hear from the FB group SLU fans have, I'm going from what I saw, having heard the comment, immediately looking over to 5 or so male students laughing followed by a staff in a brown sweater coming down to say knock it off.

First of all it's a well known fact Woody Hudson is one of the toughest guys in the nation and has actually injured people during fights in junior hockey. I was at the game and the crowd just moans and groans for calls left and right. A student before the game yelled out "Your mom is a wh***" to a Union player being announced, I was directly across the ice from the student and I saw a staff member come down and seem to ask who did it, I was watching the whole time and not one student was removed, that's sad. I know Joe Marsh knows his stuff, I have never said anything bad about Joe Marsh, I was giving an opinion on a questionable hit along with stating a fact in the type of player Hudson is.

Here if you haven't seen him fight here you go - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8Ho8YUgH5E

You'll be pleased to know that the student in question actually was removed from the arena, and word is he is banned from future events at Appleton arena.

The fact that you state that all the SLU fans do is wish for Woody to go and "hurt" other players is laughable. Woody is a very tough guy, no doubt, but he doesn't play "dirty", and hasn't earned a reputation for being a dirty player either. He can play a 'heavy' game, and certainly has some weight to throw around.

I would like to know where there are fans that do not "moan and grown for calls" though.

Having brought my kid to the game and recognizing the area I'm in with about ten to fifteen 20-60 year olds swearing left right and center having constantly to remind my child that's not language we use, it's their right to use it but we do not.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

How many more points do you think Union needs to lock up a top four finish to get a bye/home ice in the playoffs?

28 points have gotten you into the top 4 for the past 10 years. We have 23. 3 more wins should do it. None of them will come easy. All 12 teams want home ice for the first round. If we win all eight of our remaining games, we win the Cleary Cup. However, we have the hardest path right now, as compared to Harvard, St. Lawrence, Cornell. Also, there are still plenty of games left to play and at least 10 teams, including Princeton, can mathematically reach 26-28 points. Any word about Vidmar?

Wrong! Once again you have made it clear and obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. I happen to know the staff of the arena including the head of the security and he was in fact removed and banned. This is coming directly from insider knowledge of the situation from those directly involved in it not some half-wit who travels from neighboring towns to watch a hockey game with two teams he has no invested interest in only to proceed to whine and moan and about everything and anything he saw.

Initially the male was not removed, if he was after the fact rightfully so, if he was after the fact does that make the situation vanish? My son actually wanted to see the hockey game and watch Us top line as he is a fan of the Flyers and hopes Vecchione signs with his team, we didn't focus on 5 drunk college students that represent your school that seems to have a can do no wrong mentality.

Ummm yes, that does in fact make the situation vanish. What else are they supposed to do besides remove him from the rink and ban him from the arena. Pull out a gun and shoot him right there on the spot? Good lord, you really will ***** about everything won't you? You're team had a game 11 miles down the road you could've been watching if you were that miserable where you were ... I am sure I am not the only one who finds it absolutely laughable that a Clarkson fan (of all teams fans) is here complaining about St. Lawrence students and how they represent their school. I'll be sure to remember this the next time they add a "T" when our fans chant SLU or when they yell Knight during the national anthem or when they put pictures of a former goalies kids with profanity attached to it on poster board and paste it behind the goal when he was playing at Cheel during his senior year. You really need to take off your rose colored glasses and throw them away. You're perception of reality is beyond skewed.

As you said how am I supposed to control that? I sit on the other end of Cheel and my son just says "what was that" over and over. It obviously benefits me to have Sweetman sit but what does it matter? That game is already a 5-1 L in my book, Carvel built a good team. Appleton is small and everything echos so when everything is dead quiet, I went on what I saw as I said, congrats if he was removed he should be banned. It's funny you say I'm *****ing when in fact you *****ed right after stating that, have a good one. I'll see you in a few years when Carvels core is gone and your player abuser of a coach is looking like a lost puppy dog.

Meanwhile, Casey Jones will keep Clarkson men in mediocrity, and it took a SLU coach to bring the women to power.

Ahhh, yes, now we got it ... Thanks for letting us all know your true motives here. As if it wasn't obvious what you were up to from the beginning, this last statement made it rather obvious ... Do everyone a favor and get lost and head on back to your round table and quit trying to create trouble where it's not wanted.

True motives here were to point out that Sweetman launched and went to Vidmars head, Morris was fired from abusing his player and people around the program know of more. I'm not objective just like you're not objective, Marsh has been out of the game a long time and headshots are taken very seriously now from even when he was coach, if Vidmar ended up being injured then a suspension 100% should be handed out in that scenario, I still say he should be. I wanted outsider input so I posted the link and the time.

What has SLU done? Gotten to Lake Placid? Talk about settling for mediocrity, SLU had something going with Carvel he scared me long term, Morris on the other hand is an old man just trying to cash in for 5 years until he retires.

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

That "Boston transplant" that you speak of happens to be the former 25+ season St. Lawrence University hockey coach Joe Marsh. He has been doing the radio broadcast this year for the men's home games. But you would know this if you took yourself out of your Union hockey bubble every once in awhile. So, who should we all take our advise from, Option #1 which is someone with only 38 posts and a solid red reputation on the USCHO fan forum or Option #2, who is a legend in the college hockey world who was coaching the team before Union was even a Division 1 program? ... I think any "educated" fan will side with Option #2. But if you don't get any of what I posted above, that's okay too. It must just be something in your water.

I care about college hockey and the young men who play it. . DO YOU??

"who should we all take our advise from" -I offered no advice -- just provided the rules as stated by the proper authorities..
The picture is clear - skates off the ice (camera is higher than ice level and you can see the blades) and there is contact to the neck and head area..
So without an alternative explanation - just attack the person who posted something you do not like -
Sounds like the current political climate...

BTW - I believe this forum says Union College - Nothing over on the St Lawrence one for you ??

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

Yes, most people do (or should) look into someones red and/or green rep. You can learn a lot about a certain poster based upon what you see from those colors. As if the obvious view from behind your rose colored glasses wasn't enough for all of us to make a conclusion about you, we also have your "off the scale" reputation to back it up. It's important to some people what your reputation is.

I don't think the rep color tells you anything .. Maybe if this forum was all Union but when outside people can post red it negates any real use
If you post me red for 10 items I replied to - poof I have a bad rep.. I don't
I care about facts , logic and the health of our student athletes. and not necessarily in that order.. Who you are doesn't matter to me
and you are entitled to your opinion .. that my friend is called respect .. and if you can't provide that .. don't know what anyone can possibly do for you..

I'd like to hear about Vidmar, also, but I haven't seen anything since Saturday. The Gazette hasn't been too helpful this year, so I don't know if we can rely on them.

As for the standings, I've been saying this for the last 20 years...this is the ECAC - anything can happen. The only thing Union can do is win their games. The schedule will be tough (two vs Cornell, Quinnipiac, at Harvard), but these guys can easily get in to the top 4. I'm more interested in first place, which winning out will accomplish. Union has two games in hand over SLU, also.

Pokey: You do a great job posting and your comments are greatly valued and appreciated and IMO "right on the money" !!!!!

Re: Union College: 2016-2017

Thought that was the best, most consistent weekend I've seen from the team this season. They made Clarkson look like a beer league team and Saturday was a fantastic high paced game with a lot of ebb and flow. SLU is a very good team and should climb in the rankings if they continue to play like that. I don't think U let off the gas in the 2nd period after getting the lead, SLU just upped their game a bit and got back in it. That's what happens when you play a really good team (and is what U did to them earlier in Schenectady). Thought U mostly dominated the 3rd period but just couldn't convert. Hayton is the type of goalie that can get in a shooter's head - he squares up so quickly that a shooter doesn't think he has that little extra time to look & pick a corner. At times looked like U rushed shots on goal. On one 2 on 1 in the 3rd period the Union puck-carrier (Vidmar I think) passed up a wide open shot to try a backdoor pass that was broken up by the d-man. But overall the effort was excellent and Sak was good in goal - can't ask for much more.

For the record, I thought the hit on Vidmar was clean when I saw it in realtime and the replays haven't changed my opinion. It was a brutal hit because Sebastian tried to turn sharply to avoid Sweetman and basically ran right into him at full speed. I doubt that we'll know much in advance if he is good for next weekend, but certainly am hoping he is ok. Also thought the team showed plenty of spunk in Potsdam when the Knights started running Sak. There was a lot of pushing and shoving after the whistle, which the refs seemed to totally ignore until it almost got out of hand at the end. I don't like Union players mixing it up in those situations, but I'm partly glad that Dufour got into it a bit near the end of the game. These situations on the road, with the refs/fans against you are ones that can bring a team closer together.

As for the driving to the net discussion - yes, pretty much every coach stresses driving to the front of the net, but it is supposed to always be a penalty to hit an opposing goalie in the protected area below the faceoff dots.

Lots of hockey still to be played and expect another physical weekend with Colgate & Cornell. I'll be very interested to see how U does against the Big Red in particular. U's d-men are undersized and Cornell is very good at driving to the net with big bodies. Hopefully the boys will have their A game both nights.
