'The wheels on your house go round and round.'

Not sure who said it... Mav, Darren, Chris, SteveF, or Case04... but it's a hall of famer. :p

believe it or not, U(m)*** fans sung that to us back in the late 1990s, the only mildly clever thing they've ever come up with in the history of ever... might have been the same game they were up 1-0 early, started chanting over-rated, and ended up losing 7-1, but who knows

Forgot about the milk carton award, thanks for the reminder Snively. I still recall the one he wrote about Henrion, had me in stitches.

However, wasn't Steve the one who had the "you can't spell playoff chokers without Ayers" tagline? Just curious how he resolves that with "Touchdown Mikey" behind the Eagles' bench.
..
moving right along...

F - John Henrion, UNH

The scoop: The most recent bust from the US national development team, Henrion’s stock has been in a free fall since they day Ryan Bourque de-committed from the once vaunted recruiting class the two shared. The comparisons stop there. Henrion managed just 19 goals in 58 games during his time with the US team, but that was apparently enough for Dick Umile to give the former junior Bruin a whistle over to titletown. Henrion, a native of Holden, Mass, responded with just 3 goals in 30 games for the mild cats last season. Hillbilly faithful will point out that Henrion’s goals each came in games against rivals BC, BU, and Maine – including one in the third period of a March 5th game against BC sparking a 3 goal outburst that clinched the national… er… regular season title for Umile’s club. But we will note that Henrion then finished the season with no points, only one shot on goal, and a minus 2 over the teams five game playoff run. Currently undrafted, Henrion will now look to parlay a series of postseason failures into an NHL free agent contract like former New Hampshire teammate, and fellow junior Bruin alum, Bobby Butler. Fun Fact: this same storyline was rejected by TV executives as the pilot episode of a show called 'its never sunny in hillbillyadelphia' (Missing since 12/10/2007)

wasn't it Rookie of the Weak? :D

it was hard to top the milk bottles

Yep. My bad. One thing I don't miss: Pages upon pages fighting over academic prowess and inadequacies.

Remember Hank!? He was a trip and a half.

Hankwp, outed Nate91b, sent everyone emails before it happened so you'd know why he was going to be missing. TF

Fun reading chucks history of uscho. People used to get tied in knots they'd be so p'ed off. Funny times. The forum was good for hours of entertainment. Now it's barely good for a few minutes.

Totally agree, walrus. Not trying to sound like "Grandpa USCHO" (but realizing I do :o ) ... but yeah, things were a hoot way back when, and the best part (at least for me) was that no matter what got said on these boards here, many of us actually ended up meeting (on purpose) at games, and then we laughed about the give-and-take. Most of the time anyway. If I've said it once, I've said it dozens of times, I had (and still have) much love for the UMaine-iacs - even for those old "Walshy apologists". :) The UMaine USCHO contingent were always cordial, good-natured, and good company when our paths crossed, whether it be at Alfond or the then-Fleet Center.

And even with the Chestnut Hillbillies ... I know most of you who've wandered over here the last few days are the same folks who are using different ID's from the old times, and while I'm not 100% sure who is who, I'm not too worried about it anyway. Met most of the BC contingent, and like the UMaine-iacs, just a bunch of fun people who loved college hockey, and weren't afraid to mix it up in defense of their program. The BU contingent included a lot of folks who were friends, but when I took some time away from here a few years ago, they moved into Agganis, won a D-1 title, but seem to have lost many of the avid followers from the WBA days, which is sad.

Most bizarre moment ever for me during that time was working from home one morning, answering the phone, and finding a former HE head coach on the other line (who shall remain nameless, although I may have disclosed his ID to a few folks privately over the years). I'd taken him to the woodshed on the boards for some well-publicized "recruiting issues" (and no, it wasn't Walshy), and suddenly here he was, wanting to debate with me over the phone. I guess he was running a hockey school at the time, and didn't appreciate the bad publicity. Of course, the info was hardly "news", and all these years later can still be found fairly easily with a simple Google search. But Coach wanted to get some stuff off his chest, so we talked for 5 minutes, and that was it. Seemed like a very sincere guy ... but sadly he'd messed up, and it stuck. Still blown away that he called me, though.

Anyway ... a lot of water has gone under a lot of bridges since then, and it's interesting to look back and see how it all turned out. Not the way I'd hoped obviously, but hope springs eternal (and all that other BS) and while the BC'ers have "won this generation" stacked up against the rest of HE, there's no guarantee how things will turn out over the next generation. Walshy and Parker are out of the picture, while York and Umile are left from the old "Big Four" days, with York having achieved legendary status (yeah, he still looks and talks like Elmer Fudd, but you can't contest the hardware) and Umile hanging on like Captain Ahab in maniacal search for the elusive white whale. But I'm a sucker for a redemption story, and if Umile somehow ever gets there, that could be the greatest redemption story of all time.

It's been a lot of fun - even with the way things have turned out - and eventually we'll see how BC fares when Coach York retires (can't possibly be any better than what he's done, can it?) ... and what's behind "Door Number 3" for UNH when Coach Umile walks away from his double-secret lifetime contract :D and whether it's paydirt OR "be careful what you wish for" time ...

Stuff like that just keeps me coming back. Here's to hoping for more "interesting" times to come! :)

Not to break up the awesome trip back through USCHO time (which I have seriously enjoyed!!!) thought this was very encouraging for how well our #18 has played:

Poturalski's Success: Freshman forward Andrew Poturalski has 23 points on the year on 11 goals and 12 assists. He is the first rookie to have at least 20 points in a season since now senior Grayson Downing recorded 23 points as a freshman in 2011-12. His next point will make him the highest scoring freshman for UNH since 2007-08 when James van Riemsdyk had 34 points as a rookie and Danny Dries had 28.

Ok, back to the cool stories...

Yikes, I cannot believe that Danny Dries found his way into this thread. But, Poturalski following in JvRs skates is good sign moving forward.

Chuck, please say you are not leaving, as your last post sure sounded like a farewell speech.

I'll bet some of the BC guys reading this thread have fond memories of Danny Boy.

Truth be told, I loved his game for the most part.

Nope, not going anywhere (not planning to anyway). Just reflecting on some fun things from the past, and hoping that there are fun things for the UNH program (and its posters) out there in the not-too-distant future.

It's still fun coming onto USCHO and posting ... I just wish UNH had a little more at stake, that's all.

If/when I slow down participating, there won't be an announcement. Wasn't one last time either. :)

Think Matt Willows on steroids...

Ok, as usual I'm a bit harsh. I have no reason to think DD was doing anything improper. Nonetheless, think of an bigger, more talented, amped up version of Willows. Played with an edge. Although unlike Willows, Dries actually contributed quite a bit in his freshman and sophomore seasons and was among the leading scorers. But he had maturity issues, both on and off the ice. (I will leave it to somebody else to properly describe his infamous play in OT against BC in a Hockey East semi.)

As the story goes a couple days before the NCAA regionals in 2009, Dries got into a fight with a bunch of UNH football players. (There is a lot of "bigger picture" symbolism in there if you think about it.) In any event he was suspended and ended up transferring to Ohio State.

As I said earlier, I liked much of his game. My guess is you would have as well.

Oh my...MW on steroids....one can only imagine..😜 Now that you mention this illustrious player I do remember hearing about him. And yeah...I would have liked his game (even the feisty parts 😉 )

Thanks Chuck for the blast from the past. Good times on here back then.

Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread

He was a hack with skills, not a good ambassador for the team or U.

True, but you could say they same thing about Freddy Meyer. I've heard more than a few Wildcat fans lamenting that the kid from NH chose BU.

And you know if Meyer wore the blue and white he would have been a huge fan favorite.

I did.

I was one of them.

Freddy was perhaps more of a hack, definitely a better (stealthier) hack and a far better player then DD.
