Re: UNH Wildcats Official Wait til Next Year...14/15 thread
Hope to see a bunch of you at the Gahden on Friday night. Do you think that these seniors know that a NCAA auto seed is entirely within the realm of their capabilities? I think that they do, so do not tell them anything otherwise.
The only team that concerns me isn't the Friday night opponent. I'm not saying BU isn't the favorite - they are - but there's something about them I just don't trust in the postseason (yet, anyway). They drew (and swept) Merrimack for the only *easy* QF series, so they are young and really haven't been tested in the postseason (yet). I still think the team to beat this season is Lowell.
The whole idea of UNH being the team on the late season run is SO foreign to me, but it's a good feeling, isn't it? Huge kudos to the seniors who have stepped up late in a season where so many (including me) had basically written them off. And now after missing out on Boston three years in a row, now UNH is starting to find their way back to the biggest stage in HE. That's a great habit to have, and we also shouldn't forget last year's seniors, who also finished strong and got the 'Cats to the HE Finals to break the "missing out" streak. Success breeds success, and it gets easier to play in the big games when your program plays in them regularly.
It's been a "house money" proposition since last weekend for UNH, and regardless of how next weekend plays out, I think they're going into next season with a legitimate "feel good factor" around the program. With the Monarchs leaving for the left coast, I hope those in charge in Durham (that's Coach Umile's boss, to be clear) can capitalize and help Coach continue to right the ship, and get UNH back to the point where trips to Boston AND the NCAA's are regular destinations, and not reasons for undue over-celebration.
Hoping to clear time in my schedule to get there for Friday, and if so, I'd he happy to terrorize you folks for a few minutes between periods. Great night to be a UNH fan!!!
