UNH Wildcats 2021/2022 - Return of the Champions of October?

Not open for further replies.
Soccer is boring because it's too low scoring.

Hopefully stated with a huge invisible "winky" emoji to mark the irony of ...

* UNH Men's Soccer - 43 goals in 18 games (just under 2.40 GPG; 2.90 GPG in last 12 games)
* UNH Men's Hockey - 14 goals in 9 games (just over 1.55 GPG; 1.00 GPG excluding Union)

UVM accounts for one of UNH's two draws (1-1, also Yale), so Sunday's game should be a good one.

Wonder if the UVM Hockey guys will hang around until Sunday to see their cohorts' big game?

While watching Warren Foegele on NESN tonight, I got to thinking “Why cannot we get skaters like that at UNH?”

Oh ………. Wait ……….

Oh ………. Wait ……….

Can you imagine what ran through his mind when, after a decent Frosh season, WF found himself languishing on the 4th line behind the MacDonald/Smith/Gaudreault "senior first checking line" juggernaut?!? Something like, "Hey, you hosers, I'm outta here, eh!!"

Before I get too snippy with the former coach and his staff, I'd totally forgotten that Brett Pesce spent all of seven (7) games in the AHL between the time he left Durham and walked into the Carolina blueline the next season. That's development we don't see any more - not too many 3rd round picks spend three years in D-1, and make the quick adjustment to The Show.

Pesce turns 27 next week. That went quickly ...

Lol, happy for the alma mater alone - but this ^ definitely warms the heart just a bit more...

* lower ranked, not lower seeded. I'd imagine the committee reviewed the two schedules and (rightly) came to the conclusion that removing the variable of Miami's vastly more difficult schedule yielded the RedHawks more deserving. And they were correct, considering once Miami found their footing Maine was outclassed.

A. Miami is your alma mater? So you must have earned your PhD at UNH? Sure!

B. Miami was indeed the lower seed, Einstein. Maine was sent there for the sake of saving a few bucks in travel costs for the NCAA. It's as simple as that.

C. Maine out-shot Miami 4-1 in the OT. Not sure what "footing" you reference. And Maine out-shot Miami for the GAME, even after having to bus-it >18 hours, to face a lower seed on its home field.

Go pound sand. You have absolutely no idea of what you propound to "explain".

Dan is an alum of Miami, you dope. Let him bask in the afterglow of his alma mater's big FH win.

Well, fat boy, why is a Miami grad commenting on Maine field hockey on a UNH men's ice hockey thread, then?

Weren't you the one who said we should keep "on-topic" not so long ago?

0-3, nuance is difficult. I genuinely hope you can work past this (apparently staggering) defeat very soon...

A - Close!

B - factually incorrect. Im sure you'll just keep yelling, but if you come back feel free to find something, anything, that makes this case? A release from Maine, the losing team? A release from Miami, the winning team? A release from the NCAA, hosts of this tournament in which Miami is advancing? A release from the Coaches' Poll you continue to cite, which specifically states its rankings have no bearing on seeding the NCAA game that Miami won and Maine lost?

You wont find anything, it doesn't exist (because you're wrong about the seeding), but you might learn something about yourself in the process...

C - You got smoked when the mighty seven-consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament RedHawks stopped taking your little Black Bear engine that couldn't for granted, but hang a banner about those shots!

Well the wheels fell of the Bruins bus last night but it was great to see Warren F out there. On another note enjoyed reading the UNH Insider about this weekend's games; esp the comment about UVM 'licking their chops' to come down here and wipe the ice with UNH. I doubt either team can afford to 'look past' the other but, hey, it happens in all levels. I expect UNH to come out ready this evening. Just do the goal scoring please you say you've worked on all week! HR's predicts for the weekend:

Friday: UNH 3 UVM 1
Sat: UNH 2 UVM 2 (OT)

Goalie predicts: Robinson Fri, Fessenden Sat

Goooo 'Cats! (our 'Cats, that is)

PS HR approves of all the field hockey commentary as of late. Dan's Red Hawks run into juggernaut Michigan today...good luck!

Actually no, Fishy. I think you can gather from my range of posts - here on this thread and elsewhere - that I'm willing to go off-topic quite a bit. Some enjoy it, others find it distracting/annoying, but it's just me being me. FWIW Dan has done a fine job explaining his interest in his alma mater's field hockey program, while others on here have been talking UNH Men's Soccer.

This is what happens when our respective hockey programs degenerate into their current state of irrelevancy, Fishy. I think pretty much everyone on both threads "gets" that ... well, except you ...

... but you are always welcome to post here. What are your thoughts BTW on which HEA coach is fatter - Jason Fortier (UMaine) or Jerry Keefe (NU)??

Another post flying well over my head.

But, back to earlier posts about watching Warren Foegele in Bruins 5-3 loss to the Oilers last night (Foegele ended up with 0 points, 0 +/-, and 1 SOG), is he the most recent UNH alum to play more than a handful of games in the NHL?

I can only identify five UNH alums currently playing in the NHL: Foegele (Oilers), DeSmith (Penquins), Pesce (Whalers), TvR (Caps), and JvR (Flyers); are there others?

Well, fat boy .........

Ref lays down the call out to get some new posters in the mix and to ramp up the energy on the board. Definitely working!! We got some hockey smack talk going, just need Choo Choo boy to get back......

Oh wait. The smack talk is about FIELD hockey. My bad, sorry for the interuption. Now back to the analysis of how we turbocharge the goal scoring to 1.3 per game or why talented and exciting Warren Foegel type players are not needed in Durham.

Be sure to check back in the spring for some quality NCAA D-I softball chat.

Two teams tied for ninth, predicted to finish near the bottom with a combined 2 - 5 record. I feel like this is a very important weekend for us.

Looks to be setting up as a wholly unsatisfying split with the rubber match coming on the pitch on Sunday. THAT is unfortunately the only UNH-UVM match of import this weekend, it seems.

FWIW dept...Dan's Red Hawks (#25) are leading (#3) Michigan 2-1 in FIELD hockey...will there be a huge upset today??? Of course ALL eyes are on Durham this weekend for the game of the century between the UNH Wildcats and UVM Catamounts. Ice hockey is also on tap for these two teams this weekend... :) (wink) UPDATE: Red Hawks continue to stave off the Wolverines heading into the 4th qtr still up 2-1. If the Red Hawks win it's a freaking massive upset in field hockey land!

Final update: Michigan finally breaks through to tie, and win, in the last 2 mins of the game. Controversial penalty corner at the end led to GWG for MI. (reviewed) Yep, good teams find a way to win but, it was oh so close for Dan's Red Hawks!

NCAA 1st Round: Miami (OH) vs #3 Michigan (bigtenplus.com)

Looks like Michigan equalized with a minute left in regulation.

My back gets sore any time I've ever casually watched the slightest bit of FH ...
