UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015-2016 (Part Three) - Living in Interesting Times

...in the Garden at the FF in 2004 when Adam Berhoel held off the marauding Black Bears for a 1-0 win in the most amazing final 90 seconds of hockey that I have ever seen.

Agree with the last part of that statement. BUT...Maine had the air taken out of them by that first disallowed goal. Ironically, if the new rule (even if his baby toe is in the blue paint, he would have to be "interfering" with the goalie's ability to play the puck) had been in affect then, it would have counted. We were sitting right behind that net in the corner and where he was standing had absolutely nothing to do with that goal. And sorry, I was rooting for Maine, an eastern school over Denver, who already had five at the time.

Hey, at least chick tacitly agrees UNH is a "best program." Now that's laughable! Kinda!

But in all seriousness, in terms of tradition and history (and believe me, at my age, those things are important!), it has been. Every program goes through "down" cycles. The landscape has dramatically changed and the infusion of cash into some of these programs have allowed them to leap to the forefront - almost too easily. But when I think back to some of the greatest games and players I have seen, UNH plays a significant role. ECAC Championship semis in '77, NCAA Championship Game in '99...unbelievable. Players like Clark, Raeder, Hislop, Langway, Crowder, Kessel, JVR, the Cox's, Lumley and on and on. The games at Snively with the mesh "glass" and the "This is the winning team....this is the losing team...winning team! losing team! winning team! losing team!" cheer... I know the rivalry between the Wildcats and my Terriers is special, at least to me (fueled by the fact that two of my relatives are UNH grads).

Me, too. The heck with Maine, BU is our biggest rival in my eyes, BU games were a big deal when I was at UNH, I have family BU connections and BU was the 1st college hockey team I was aware of. I do understand that the 'cats are not, were not and never will be close to BU's #1 rival. Ironically, the Terriers are pretty much my second favorite college hockey team. The Denver loss was harsh. Glad the Fighting no longer Sioux took 'em out last night.

Nope, the 2002 semi's loss to the Black Bears was still too fresh for me to root for them in 2004. I even went to Orono for a grad degree, back when they only had a club team that played on an outdoor rink "down by the river" (Chris Farley, R.I.P.).

Where "who" was standing, and "that goal" was waived off, so it was not a goal, right?

I was only being half serious about Q taking over the dubious moniker of best program not to have won an NC from UNH. Of course UNH falls into that category unfortunately. I guess you could make the case that Q, if they lose Saturday, is one of the best programs recently not to have won an NC!

The drive for 600 has lined up game with Brown (5 wins last year)

Let's see if AIC and Bentley will make a repeat

Yes, of course, wins are much more important than SOS. When was the last time the Cats played at Meehan? Perhaps the Cats should return this past year's engagements with the AHC by visits to the JAR and the Olympia Ice Center this coming season.

And to think just three short years ago when I started to follow the 'Cats we were playing the likes of Minny and Michigan...still remember that 5-2 win over them. Of course, no disrespect meant to your Falcons sir...:D

And, the Yellowjackets! Buzzzzzzz!!

Clear some headshot space in the lobby for Poturalski
- no need to make room for Canaan, NH native Gavin Beyruther as he plays for St. Lawrence. Hopefully, Kelleher can find some linemates productive enough to help him earn his place next spring...

Kinda up to the coaches to "find" TyK some productive linemates, no? TyK definitely needs finishers on his line, and those players seem to be sadly lacking on this team.

I can't recall if this is only for first-team All-Americans or both first-team and second-team All-Americans for the lobby at the Whittemore center. Can someone fill me in?

I believe it is both - but could be wrong...?

Snively - absolutely correct. Kelleher is an All-American talent but line mates - and winning (Jankowski) - can make the difference. It's easy to look around college hockey this year and see the role 'dominant' lines played in the selections. Does UNH have the developing horses to give him the support he needs? Will they win enough to aid his cause?

? - Vela - Kelleher

It would be a shame if he does not earn an AA nod, because based on talent he should be on that wall...

Working in his favor is the likelihood that all six 2016 East All-Americans are leaving college hockey this year. Anas has to be a hot FA and Fitzgerald likely leaves BC.

The BC exodus may have begun with Wood and Santini leaving for the NJD...

Fitting that Chuck loses the final SOG tilt of the year36/33. NODAK clearly the dominant team. Q's work ethic could not overcome NODAK's talent.

That may be true but at least his beloved Red Wings are in the playoffs... On another note wow, what a dominant team to be sure...(NoDak) No truer words were ever spoken regarding work ethic v talent..and Q had talent. Welp, another season come and gone..long way to October! :p Hope everyone here has a great off season (we've been off for awhile). Looking forward to seeing if they (UNH) do lower the ST prices, and eagerly await Airforce?!? :o

Yup. The B's no show performance stunning. Will Claude survive is the question. Have a great off-season Ref!

Thanks! As a teacher of course I already have the count down to summer vacation, but I also begin the count down to walking into the 'Whitt!! Not to discuss the b's too much here but yeah, very disheartening...and I wouldn't be surprised if they fire CJ although I'm not sure it's really all his fault...

Not that it is credible to assert that there is any correlation, but it sure was strange that ever since they had that "ceremony" honoring him as the winningest coach in B's history, the team completely tanked. I can't imagine he did anything significantly differently than he has done his entire coaching career. I get the whole "scapegoat" thing, but in this case, (and I have been ranting about this for decades), this team has had NO offense since the Bobby Orr days. The organization has never adapted to how the game is played now. They still think they can win with "goal prevention." The reality is, if Luongo doesn't completely implode in 2011 (and Thomas doesn't stand on his head), this team has still not won a cup in 44 years. Frankly, I place the blame squarely on "lunch pail Cam." He just doesn't seem to value "skill" players, as if they're some kind of wimps. He'd rather have a no-talent "hard-working" guy who couldn't score if he was shooting at a 12 x 8 net. They'll probably trade Pastenak next...

Need to get rid of Sweeney and Neely. It's their meathead philosophy that has driven away talent in favor of grit (witness trading Seguin, Kessel, Hamilton), and passing on the most obvious picks/talent last year in the draft (Barzal and Connor). Not enough sandpaper -- need to make other teams not want to play against us.

I know Chiarelli made the Seguin trade, but if you are the assistant gm, you need to speak up vocally. Oh, and Donny, if you are rebuilding, then you trade assets before they expire (Erickson, Chara).
