One final FYI - Freshman forward (and lost UNH recruit) Jordan Masters leads Arizona State in scoring with 5-7--12 in 11 games...

Speaking of Arizona State, they swept Lake Superior State this weekend. They now have 3 wins against DI teams so far this season.

Good morning UNH hockey fans!! Here's the tale of the tape from last night vid wise, and to me the highlight is Chris Miller being in the right place, right time, saving our tails at end of the third:

http://www.themackreport.com/news/highlights-podcasts-and-notes-from-merrimacks-3-3-tie-with-unh/

Statistically we won a lot of the 'little things' like faceoffs, SOG (which don't matter anyway :p) and we managed to stay out of the penalty box which is a good thing. Our turnover which led to the third goal makes me wince and we seemed to just allow Mac to skate in and score. But besides that if you were actually at the game it was a back and forth affair with I'd say Mac getting better chances to set up plays than we did. This most likely due to the fact that we struggle still, and probably will, to get the puck moving out of the zone defensively. (Duh; this is the story of our season; if that improves, well, our work here is done along with getting another line to score some goals)

Felt that DT had better positioning than in the past few but we've gotta play tougher in front of him (or AC) with the big boys coming to town this weekend. The line of Vela/Eiserman didn't show too much looking for Eiserman especially to break out this year more than he currently has and Vela will come along. Loved the intensity that Nazarian plays with; he had a few good shots on net and he's quick. DU mixed it up line wise in the third; TyK was out there with Gaudreault (one assist on the night) and CMacD.

Cam Marks probably wants this game back and I am hoping he continues to develop. He can be a decent skater and I believe he could be that player that makes a big difference back there moving the puck out of the zone. However turn overs behind our net continue and that's something they gotta fix. Thought Matias C had the best game of his season; he's our best hope along with Maller out there maturity wise and I've been waiting to see more from him. Two assists on the night from the MC and if we can get some shots off the point that go in that would help.

We did get some decent shots on their keeper and it was nice to see Miller get an almost impossible goal on the rebound (watch the vid; he's nearly off his feet. What a kid!) Overall I will say that UNH played with intensity and say what you will about Mack they aren't number 14 in the nation for nothing.

Anyhoo very glad to be back at the 'Whitt this coming weekend; big ones!! (Not to mention the treat we get with Bentley U coming to town Thanksgiving weekend!! :D ) I'm looking forward to seeing what the excitement is all about with the Falcons Snively65! And yes it's too early to set up a game thread for that game sir. ;)

Oh and btw TvR got his second goal of the season last night with this blast:

Have a nice relaxing Sunday! Go Pats!

Was wondering the same thing, HR. Hopefully C-H-C, 'Watcher or someone else might have that insight?

No insight, but MacAndrews is a North Shore Mass guy, a couple of towns over from Souza's Wakefield. I also find it interesting that Souza was with Umile at the Robinson signing, even though he had nothing to do with recruiting him. Seems to be a bit of a signal. [/Kremlin watcher]

Well I think the pic is telling a tale; transition is happening and is unfolding as we speak?

Kelleher, Poturalski shining as Wildcats’ offensive backbone:
http://www.tnhdigital.com/kelleher-poturalski-shining-as-wildcats-offensive-backbone/

Poturalski admits that he needs to work on the defensive zone aspects of his game. Coach [Umile] has been on me, and we’ve been working all year on that, he said. I think that’s a big area of improvement for me, and if I want to play at the next level, that’s something I’ve got to get better at.... If either Kelleher or Poturalski can keep up their scoring rate for the rest of the season, they will have a solid chance at finishing as the top scorer in Hockey East. No UNH player has led the conference in scoring since the 2004-2005 season, when Sean Collins earned the distinction. The same season UNH also featured the conference’s second-highest scorer, as Preston Callander finished second.

Second leading scorer in the nation....and MINUS TWO.....

Thanks for posting this! I agree with TyK in this article; why dump and chase when you can use your SKILL? I hate that method of offense anyway and I know it's used a ton (including UNH) Nice to hear Pots working on his D game and not to mention the other forwards has to be priority. He and TyK are lethal when they click...and hope it continues right through the season. This weekend will show a lot; they need the puck, period. Right now I believe TyK leads all scorers for points AND assists:

Tell me if you've heard this one: UVM up 3-0 over Umass and they score 3 unanswered to tie. OT now and free on the UVM site if you're not watching football!

UPDATE: Watching some of the UMaine v UML game and Tom Caron just referred to the Black Bears as "black heads". Kind of like when he called Pots "Portularaski" which heck I thought that was right all along. :p

Besides SOG meaning something, for one game anyway, UNH back up to 28th in PWR, besides being undefeated in HEA. Big HEA weekend coming up with UMassy Wassy and BC coming to Lake Whitt? Will there be game threads?

Here's how the New Hampshire student news paper saw the 'Mac game:

http://www.tnhdigital.com/unh-ties-merrimack-in-road-scrum/

Huge weekend coming up and in fact the U is having a "pep rally'" Thursday st Lundholm for both the Hockey and Football team. And sure start something (a game thread) up I'm sure the BC gang would love it...

Watched UMass do Ito UVM what they did to us coming back from a 3 zip to force OT . Not sure what to think of our re-match with them. As per BC if we can solve Demko that would be an accomplishment (I'd say miracle but don't wanna sound like a negative fan...but we did manage to do well at home last season against them)

Umass game thread title: "Don't be unclassy and tie UMassy" and I got nothin' for BC...:p

Edleman...broken foot?

How 'bout those Pats today?

And, C's, without a star, upset OKC tonight (of course, OKC missing KD again). And, Cs beat Hawks on Friday night, and Bs schooled Chuck's Redwings last night. Good weekend for Boston pro teams.

Lost? Or shooed away? I figured after his issues elsewhere Umile thought he might not fit the UNH mold.

 It was a 2-2 tie, no?

FWIW, completely different team this year. Completely different. The Div. III caliber kids are gone and have been replaced with future NHLers.

I think they will fall back towards earth here as the schedule ramps up but it's a far superior squad to last year's. Plus Demko is as health as he has been in 5 years.

Sure does feel like he's been there forever, eh? :D

Yes Nick I am following BC's early season antics and am well aware of how good they are, esp. Demko. I read where he had his hip surgery, and that he's posted what, 6 shutouts in a row? Def one of the great college goal tenders like Connor Hellebuyck et al. Like Chuck said it DOES seem like he's been around forever. Prob next year he gets the nod to move along...one can only hope! Seriously, we know he's good.

And, as surprising as it is some of us (not all, mind you) do sigh a breath of relief when we get a tie, esp. against the HE 'powerhouse' teams. I know that wasn't always the case and sure hope BC isn't looking past the 'Cats....you never know. Sometimes, we even beat 'em.

Ties are not losses and you do manage to get a point out of it; beats losing. I'd rather win, of course...who wouldn't?? I think they beat us quite soundly the next night; have to look it up but think it was 5-2 or something to that effect! Looking forward to seeing how we do against the gang from Chestnut Hill...and as always, am realistic in my expectations, too. ;)

Looks like a bunch of tix have been sold at least in my section there are only a few left so hopefully we will make it interesting! AT LEAST people should come to see our new jumbotron; that's worth the price of admission, let me tell you. :p

Saw BC twice in the Springs and they are deep and talented on offense and defense and Demko is so big and calm in the crease. That will be a VERY tough match up for UNH. Not sure we can count on much puck possession for the Wildcats - miss the days when UNH could skate end to end with any BC team...

Honestly, the BC game this weekend really makes the UMass game a must win. Any points from BC would be a huge bonus...
