Interested to see if they get a banner in the Whitt for their achievement (it's their arena too) or if Athletics puts the kibosh on it.

Now that would be something to check into... We are thinking of attending a UNH Alumni gathering in Wolfeboro later in April...and the guest speaker is Marty S who will speak on the future of UNH athletics...maybe I'll inquire about this championship if it doesn't come up. :p I also know the head coach's father in law and might ask what, if anything, UNH is doing to recognize this club's achievement. Not trying to rock the boat mind you, but, recognition is due to these boys IMHO in some way, shape, or form.

Go ahead, rock BS35's boat; most if not all of us will be behind you, HR. If BS35 does not acknowledge our hockey club's NC, he should be fired, on the spot. The only issue that I see with raising a banner for our club hockey team at Lake Whitt is that there would be no relief from the BC fan boys' taunting on our threads.

Also, it drives me nuts that Mike Ayers is behind BC's bench, even more so than Johnny Hockey and Joey Leleggia not skating for UNH the past three seasons.

Ya think? :) I get the impression that the Club Cats are alittle more than "intramurals"...they play a full schedule of games, have coaches, wear the UNH jersey? Am I missing something here? Totally get the difference in the two teams. Maybe I don't know enough about it all. Just saying, give them some recognition...somewhere, anywhere! Perhaps someone out there who has more info can shed some light FWIW dept...

No doubt, but organizationally they slot in with intramurals, the Hamel Recreation Center, Mendum's Pond, the outdoor pool which is all overseen by the Director of Campus Recreation.

Women's Lax in 1985 is the other National Title UNH holds...
Try telling that to Maine fans who insist we're the "University of No Hardware" despite having two national titles before they did (1985, 1998), and both won without cheating. :P

You guys want to have a banner for a club team? Oh my

Thus makes sense because a kid like Gaudreau would obviously choose UNH over BC given the choice. Maybe hang a banner for "almost" landing him and Leleggia, too

Belive there used to be a banner acknowledging the club team before they moved them around this year, not sure if it's still up there. Oyster River plays at the Whitt and there is a banner acknowledging them down the far end; make a "UNH Club Hockey" banner of equal size to the OR one with "2014 ACHA Division II National Champions" appended to it and slap it on the opposite side of the end zone.

I have seen a few club hockey games over the last few years. I went to their last pool play game a week ago Sunday in Marlboro when they played Liberty University, winning 6-2. This is my take. I don't think anyone would argue that top level D3 teams have players who could play D1. They might not be stars but they could certainly hold thieir own on most D1 teams. I would argue that the the top players on UNH's club team could play D3. They might not be stars but they could play. UNH's top 3 or 4 players all lacked something - size, jump in their skates, hands, shot release - that would translate to consistent success in D1. But at the same time they all have some of those aforementioned skills that would be the norm certainly at the D3 if not D1 level.

The other thing I want to emphasize is that these kids are not on any type of scholarship. They play a 35-40 game schedule, just like the varsity. They travel all over the Northeast to play, taking the same bus rides that the varsity takes, to play in college rinks or maybe an off campus rink, in front of few if any fans. And why? My guess it is because they love to play. Personally I think it is reasonable to put a banner up in the Whit to acknowledge their accomplishment. After all, they play all their home games at the Whit, they are representing the school in a national tournament (there were 16 schools in Marlboro) and they won. What's wrong with recognizing their efforts?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

instead of moaning that Ayers is not on your bench, moan that Vechionne isnt.
Had 30 pts, all rookie team, first line center
all this with a lengthy out of line up with mono

would be a 150+ point guy
better than any F unh had this year or next.as freshmen

I know, you hsve sll these blue chippers coming in but they must have been hiding when a depleated Union came there and easily took both gms. Even after coach and captains called out and challenged team before sst night gm

They should hang a banner IMO and do it at a home hockey game. Don't put it up there without proper recognition of the achievement. Maybe it would give the boys something to think about.

the Avg. age on their hockey team might be comparable to some NHL teams lol, Know but they have 12 players either 23, or 24 . Im sure the floodgates will open after this season and will return back to ECAC parity .

Let them hang it at their own home game and celebrate, but bring them out on the ice during intermission of a men's game (homecoming?) and let them get some recognition.
